DDJ-RR Sound Breaking

Hi, I received my DDJ RR last Friday. Got to try out yesterday and love the feel of it...Rekordbox seems good too so far. I have an issue though...after activating the Master Tempo and any FX, the sound starts breaking/skipping. It is not the slight distortion you get from the master tempo being active. The music starts skipping. It can be 5-10 mins after using it. I have tried decreasing and increasing the buffer without any luck.

I've also tried uninstalling and installing both the drivers and software. The controller's firmware has successfully been updated. Also, I have stopped any software working in the background...on two separate laptops. I really needed the controller this weekend but I can't risk it! I will have to use my Denon MC6000 until this gets fixed.

Hi, I have the same issue with my DDJ-RB. 5 -10 minutes playing and then music starts cracking and skipping. I've tried to reinstall drivers and software it didn't help...

Yeah, I tried different USB cables and ports. No luck!! I pressume a firmware update will fix it, hopefully soon. I can't see the controller being defective but we shall wait and see. I had the same issues with my Denon MC6000 when I first had purchased.

Increase the buffer size in rekordbox and see if this improves the audio performance.

I actually tried that and no luck. As soon as I turn the Master Tempo on and add Fx it starts to break the sound and doesn't stop until I restart Rekordbox.

@Simon > What is the spec of your computer and what is the buffer setting in rekordbox?

Intel Core i7-4700HQ 2.4 GHz Processor
16 GB DDR3 RAM; 256 GB Solid-State Drive
NVIDIA GTX-860M 2GB Graphics
15.6-Inch UHD (3840 x 2160) IPS Display
Windows 10

Buffer: I've tried from 144 samples to 2048 samples. If it helps, the breaking/crackling happens through out the whole sounds: main outs, headphones, cue and main mix.

@Simon > Can you please try updating your graphics drivers - please use the following links as the Windows Update seldom contains these updates:

NVIDIA
Intel
AMD / ATI

Hi I'm having this problem.my computers more than capable ,graphics card fully updated ,firmware updated etc ,I've tried all sorts and have come to the conclusion it is down to windows 10,I tried listening to a track just in media player and other media players and it did the same ,yet it didn't on YouTube ,it's driving me mad,I like the controller but this is annoying ,it's almost like now and again beats sort of pop or crack, happens with wav and mp3.people have reported this on windows 10 forums.

@Pulse - All my graphic, sound and chipset drivers are up to date. I asked a friend for his laptop which is still on Windows 8.1 and the same thing. I decided to play with Rekordbox using only the laptop and no controller. I activated an FX and sure enough, the music started breaking. His laptop is slightly newer and better...all up to date too.

@Chris - You might be absolutely right. It most likely is a Windonws 10 and Rekordbox issue. I've used Serato and Traktor recently and both work fine but Traktor works best and that's what I've used with my MC6000. I really like the controller but I can't have the controller just sitting there. I was thinking of mapping the DDJ RR to Traktor but I just don't have the time. I might be exchanging it for a different controller.

I'm the same I have been really excited about it and now I've just lost all interest after paying 550 pounds,I'm usu ally good at working out what's wrong ,I feel defeated I have eleminated everything it could be and it's got to be windows 10,I don't want to go back to 7 either cos it means reinstalling absolutely everything ,downloading all my steam games etc installing drivers again etc : (

I also forgot to add another issue from the beginning. When using the pads to set cue points... I'm able to set a cue point but when I hit any pad that's set, there's a big delay when hitting it multiple times. Say for instance on a snare or kick sound. I hit the pad once, twice and get a quick response. If I tried to hit it rapidly three or more times, there's delays.

@Chris - I fee the same way. I was thinking of downgrading another laptop I have to Windows 7 and trying that but it's just too much work!! I like apple but still prefer Windows. Traktor and Serato work just fine for me. I really do like Rekordbox but can't rely on it for live performances.

You don't think it could be some sort of sound card clashing do you ? Something to do with the nvidia gpu ,the pioneer card and on board card, might have a mess about later try disable / enable a few things in sound settings

OK so I've been doing some more tests and switching from sound card to sound card using windows media player as the audio player and the audio coming out of my Samsung tv when I switch to my nvidia sound card no problems at all,no crackling, switch to pioneer ddjsr on playback devices and the crackling starts to happen ,so now I'm thinking it's got to be the USB connection .when you hover over the bottom right speaker curser it says line usb.this seems to be happening via the pioneer soundcard and USB line.

Try using a different USB cable and/or USB port - some USB ports / chipsets don't provide enough power to the controller and thus there are issues with the audio performance.

I just bought a laptop that's weaker than my desktop ,n3700 quad core 8 gig of ram ,after increasing the size of the buffer on it and completely blocking antivirus on it I get clear sound ,no issues and cpu meter doesn't seem to go over 60%. my desktop with a nvidia gtx 960 and i5 2500 had the issue with sound crackling that I couldn't resolve ,both laptop and desktop run Windows 10.

Sorry, I've been away this weekend. Have a newborn at home and not much time as I use to. I did try different ports and USB cabled without any luck. The second laptop I tried on had windows 8.1 and AMD graphics card. Still having bad sound. Most likely I will have to return the controller. I can't shell out cash right now for an extra laptop. Really had high hopes for this controller.

@Chris - Glad you were able to resolve the issue. You could be right, might be an nvidia problem but I will include AMD too. Might be a dedicated graphics card issue. Does your new laptop have integrated or dedicated graphics?

It's integrated is the laptop my desktop is dedicated.I've heard amd can have issues with dj software, serato advise against amd, I nearly went for an amd laptop aswell before I checked.I found it odd that rekordbox requirements say nothing about amd, just intel

I see... Yeah, serato does not play well with AMD. I'm pretty sure Pioneer would offer a fix later if it ends up being the dedicated graphics. For now, I will have to exchange the controller. I have a friend who's looking to trade my laptop for his iMac 21.5. He actually hauls his iMac to his gigs. I don't know how I feel about hauling the imac around. Then there's the question of will it work with the DDJ RR... I feel like give no the Numark NV II a try. No disrespect to Pioneer.

AMD CPUs are the problem, not GPUs.

Are you guys running AMD processors?

Mines an i5,we both seem to have nvidia gpus tho suspiciously enough.

There certainly could be something to do with the graphics chipset; try lowering the Waveform Drawing Rate in the rekordbox preferences from High to Medium.

Tried this and no luck! I don't think I've ever had so many issues with a controller and I've owned four. The performance pads have horrible lag too. I tried switching the GPU to my intel CPU and that hasn't helped at all. I can't afford to buy another laptop at the moment. I can't wait for all these issues to be rectified. Sad to say but I will have to return it and get something else or go back to Denon. I truly like this controller but not worth the headaches.

The pads do lag now and again and cpu meter not going above half .experienced a new bug earlier ,one channel fader up,the other fully down and both tracks were playing out ! Did it for a few tracks I selected then just went back to normal.the ddj rr is possessed .

Such a shame ,it's a good controller when it works right,I considered exchanging for a nv2 until I saw how cheap it looked in store, just hope these problems get ironed out.

@Chris- thanks for the heads up on NV II. That's what i was afraid of, it being cheaply made. Yes, it is a shame the DDJ RR has all these issues. It's is constructed very well and the layout is perfect for my taste. I don't like USB powered controllers but might go get the DDJ SR and go back to Traktor/Serato. Like I said, I would like to wait but need a stable controller starting next month. I guess I'll keep using my MC6000. It hasn't failed me yet but wanted an updated controller.

Yeah the nv2 looks like an argos toy compared to the rr, the jog wheels are so small and for a 4 channel controller the controller itself is small,I don't think it's any bigger than the rr and it's ugly ,stay away from that lol

I hadn't looked up the the dimensions on the NVII. That is so much going on in a small package. I really thought it could be used as a stand alone mixer. I definitely won't be getting that. I've considered the Reloop Terminal Mix 8. Any experience with that controller?
