Artwork quality - files on pc vs the same files on usb flash drive

Here are 2 pictures showing the artwork quality difference between files on my pc's hdd and the same files exported via rekordbox on usb flash drive

mp3's @ 320 kbps files

Is this normal ?

Anybody else having this problem ?

I've noticed that , with some files, the artwork gets altered each time i hit the "refresh" sign in the info tab, they become unrecognizable .

And the biggest question : is this happening with the audio files also ?

Rekordbox 1.5.1

I've read the thread on the old forum about the artwork. It seems the artwork cause some problems.

However, there are some differences between the common problems discussed on the forum and mine.

The difference is that the artwork on my files gets altered only on exporting on flash drive.

I just want to know if  my problem (described in the first post) is a common one.

I also need to know if the same thing (altering) is happening with the audio files when exported to a flash drive.

What do i need to do?

Thanks

@Marian > Yeah, embedded artwork was causing some problems in the early days of the new generation CDJs.

In relation to your issue, I can only assume that the artwork gets compressed for export. The same thing certainly doesn't happen with the audio. I'll find out more and get back to you.

@ Gavin

Thanks for the reply

Meanwhile i've had a test, Pulse did it before

Here is the link for details

http://forums-archive.pioneerdj.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/240103214/m/984108626?r=164107726#164107726

After running this test, the same "problem" appeared , even the picture file was not corrupted and it was properly embedded into the mp3 file .

Now i've read your reply.

So u say that rekordbox compresses the artwork and prepares it for the cdj2000's display ? It looks pretty low quality even for the cdj's display. I would like to know more about this process, if is possible.

I want to make sure is not because of my flash drive or other part in the chain.

Can u check one of your files u have on both your pc and usb flash drive (if u use one), and tell me if u notice the same difference as in the pictures in my previous post ?

Thanks in advance!

PS - don't worry, no rush, i know there are a lot of threads in this forum u need to answer,  and not only that .

@Marian > Turns out I was right. Embedded artwork is compressed for export. Indeed the quality is not ideal for display on Rekordbox but it's adequate for the CDJs. To preserve the quality of the original artwork would increase the transfer (export) times hence this is not going to be changed.

Plus, it saves size on the export.  I pulled a 2.2MB album art JPG out of an MP3 the other day.

Thank you both for your answers.

I thought its because of my flash drives or something else. I was concerned about the audio files. Now i know there is nothing to worry about
