@Bronson > It could be as simple as a loose ribbon connector, please contact Pioneer technical support for further assistance as nobody here is authorized to provide you with instruction on disassembly or repair of your CDJ.
Hi all,
In Thailand and was playing balcony party, about 4 hours in and the screen on one of the decks completely crashed, all scrambled colour pixels, then screen went dead, then come back on with variations of different scrambled screens. This whole time it still played the track though rekordbox. Switched the CDJ off and on and the boot screen has some weird hieroglyphics in the bottom right corner while booting(!), then continued to have same problems.
I then unplugged everything rebooted the laptop, lifted the CDJ out of the case and put the back legs on top of the case, so it could breath underneath and after 5 mins break turned it back on and everything was fine, no problems for the next 6 hours.
I'm presuming that is was over heating? It was a really hot evening, and is the only cause I can think of, although have done many parties over here with them in the flight case and never had any issues.
Anyone know more about this?
Is that a symptom over an overheating deck?
Could the deck now have some permanent damage?
James

are you on the latest FW because i did have a scramble issue that would flicker quick but one of the FW updates resolved it
@James > I remember one user in Thailand before (was it you?) having an issue with humidity and condensation building up underneath the CDJ2000 screen so I'm wondering have you exposed your CDJ to significantly varying temperatures like that too?
The CDJ2000s usually have very little reason to get that hot - think of club installs - some of those are very warm and air flow wouldn't necessarily be the best either.
Has the issue occurred since? Have you your players updated to the latest firmware (although I doubt thats the issue either)?
I'll ask some more questions on this end and come back to you.
Hey guys,
Yeah, I have the latest firmware installed 4.05.
@Gavin -> Thanks for reply. Yes It was me who had the condensation under the screen, I'd completely forgotten about that. Was about a year ago lasted for a couple of weeks on both CDJs, and it slowly disappeared, I guessed it eventually evaporated out the same way it came in. From Feb till end of Nov my decks have been back in UK and no problems, & just brought them back here, and first long session, it happened.
Wish I had grabbed a camera to take a photo, but all I was thinking was...... Get the music back!!
The CDJ was not hot hot when I took it out of the flight case, but it was warm on the bottom metal plate.
I thought of 2 other possibilities:
One is it got damaged in transit. Was in swan flight case the whole journey, but something could have happpend.
The power in Thailand, where we live...... Is incredibly irregular, the power fluctuates so much, that the woofer sometimes dies for a few minutes (usually if someone in the area takes a hot shower, and all the lights go very dim. The DJ kit always stayed on though, but maybe that is not so great for the electrics. The screen didn't scramble when there was a power drop happening. Last year I had everything plugged into a stabilizer, but this time the bungalow didn't come with one, so I will have to go buy one.
The issue only happened last night and being as it came 4 hours in and then was ok for next 6 hours, once lifted, I don't have any ideas how to test it except when we make make next long party, & but be honest I will probably do everything I can to try and not replicate that fault!!
Cheers
Have the same problem myself with condensation under the screens it comes and goes
My suggestions:
1) Use a UPS (uninterruptable power supply) with AVR (automatic voltage regulation); it will keep the voltage within a tight tolerance for the sensitive electronics.
2) Maybe consider getting some silica gel packs and stick them inside the CDJs?
Thanks for the advice Pulse will give that a go
great!! this just happened to me tonight, I was using serato fortunately because I had to mix videos, Right deck was playing (All hooked up in HID mode), all of a sudden I look at the left deck and the screen is frozen with red dots all over is and normal screen was still readable, it was frozen for about 10 seconds and then the deck rebooted itself. Nothing else in the system was effected so I can't blame it on a power issue. I did have a vga to composite video adapter usb plugged in to power the box up, is it possible the via box was drawing to much power? it only did it once throughout the night, but once is enough to now worry if this is ever join to happen again
@BriChi > I don't see how the power draw on USB would cause that to happen ... did you happen to have your wireless mic receiver sitting too close again? ;) Unfortunately, until it happens again (or consistently), it's hard to rule anything out.
yeah Pulse, Unfortunately I know that's the way it is, I was hoping maybe the engineers may know of an exact reason why something like this would happen. I do have my Sennheiser receiver mounted under the player in my case, they do not touch each other and the antennas are extended to be behind the player by about 4 inches, Could that really be a cause of the deck locking up? unfortunately also this is the 2nd time I had this happen, the first time i had a usb light plugged into the top port just for power so that's the only other thing that is the same when the deck rebooted
and to add, I would think if it was the mic, it would happen more often, I have had the decks for about 2 years now setup like this, almost to the date and it only happened twice
pic of how mic is mounted, again, the mic and cdj are not physically touching
I was kidding re: the mic -- no, I don't think it's the problem, but let me know if you can replicate it.
LO,,, sounds good. I have it running today setup the same as last night to see if it reboots.
Just an update.... Not much to report, the condensation is back, even though its not been connected with raining conditions (I will look into the silica gel packs), & the screen has been fine since, although have not had them on for any long sessions yet.
@Pulse, Is there a chance of you talking to an engineer about the issue? Maybe they can tell by the info if they think it's a power supply issue, chip on a main board, etc..... I would rather replace a p/s for $100 then worry every party if the deck may just reboot itself at any moment
hi I m from Goa India and have a similar problem with one of the CDJ2000 displays.. how ever I noticed this happens only when we use the gear out doors in the sun and never in the indoors.. so I am guessing its something to do with the heat... not sure what exactly it is....
is this whats happening at 2 seconds in? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B72LykSmANQ
if so it's a board that needs to be replaced, done a couple of these already
@BriChi> One of my cdj's is experiencing what you are describing almost exactly. It would get dots on the screen, and sometimes bug out even more or just black out. Also the player keeps functioning its just the screen.
I can either get it repaired or return it but that would be a bigger than hassle than repairing most likely.
My question for you is, from your experience, what board needs to be replaced? and how much should it cost?
From looking at the service manual I would guess that it would be the TFTB ASSY, but I am no engineer. Also Its a mk1 CDJ2000.
I know its an old post but would really appreciate a reply!
Thanks
