Out the box and best USB to buy? XDJ RX

hi all

finally got round to purchasing my RX after 4 years with NI and Denon, it arrives friday and was wondering when it arrives before i take it out to gigs is there anything i need to do thats vital, like updates etc.... also whats the best USB to use, I've used a Sandisk 64GB 3.0 on CDJ2000s without any problems so just wondering if its the same kind of system and if it would be ok to upgrade to a 128gb.

Thanks in advance

@Steve > Welcome and congrats on the purchase!

The first thing you should do is update it to the 1.60 firmware, announced just a couple of days ago. Obviously, if you're familiar with rekordbox at all, you've got a leg-up in the game. If not, you'll want to import your music and have rekordbox analyse it all for you. If you haven't done that yet and want to use your Traktor cue / memory points to save the time / effort of redoing them all, consider purchasing Rekord Buddy; it's a 3rd-party application (by one of our forum friends, Didier) - only catch is there's no Windows version.

Regarding USB drives, your mileage will vary regarding the performance and reliability of USB devices; we recommend testing them at home before using them for performance. Some drives have low-quality memory management chipsets which can have issues with Pioneer players. Best to purchase high-performance drives and test them thoroughly. Unfortunately we don't keep a list of compatible devices as there are simply too many drives on the market to do so.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi pulse,

got my library all in RB, tried out a R1 last december but decided to sell it on but of course id sat and done all the RB stuff and after ordering the RX I've brought it right up to date and thats raring to go.... ill put the second question differently, if you were me which drive would you go for, cost isn't that much of a problem when you consider the money we'll all save not buying new MacBooks every other year... thanks in advance

Keep in mind that you don't get faster loading times on the XDJ-RX when using high performance USB media: http://forums.pioneerdj.com/entries/81490445-XDJ-RX-USB-media-loading-speed-Stick-SSD-HDD-always-nearly-the-same-

Using them has only advantages with your pc/mac for import/export your audio data. But it is very important to use a highly stable and reliable USB media even if it's a slow one. Having a second one with you in case of USB hardware failure is a good idea too.

I use a USB-stick as main audio source and a USB-HDD for emergency and for rare needed searchings in the whole database which does not fit on the 64GB USB stick.
