I also have this issue, but not so frequently... in 10 gigs happens 1 time (and I try to have a CDJ ready just in case this happens)

フォローする[TICKETED] XDJ-r1 Freeze.
Played a gig on the weekend 4 hour set using iPad linked. Had two freezes while navigating thought the USB. noticed the iPad screen would white out and say loading. The times on the deck would freeze and decks become unresponsive and seemed the buffer ran out and music stopped and had to reboot iPad and unit.

Hey dude, can i offer you some advice, take note of little things that are gonna start happening to your unit and document it, video the stuff, over 6 months mine deteriorated to the seizing with high pitched noise, play buttons cue buttons not working, wireless never worked, also your bpms might begin to start differring when they're in sync, also start watching your gains and listen out for your channels volume, if it climbs by itself, oh yeah and E-8302 errors when your using a flash stick not playin from cd's, also look out for if your usb starts to give you something that says unsupported device,..... film any glitch you have and make sure when you email it keep a copy of it, cos hopefully it never happens to you, but mine was in for repairs 5 weeks, all they did was fix the play button, and everything i mentioned now now, thats what was wrong, they never fixed it cos they don't know how, they wont even replace it, their excuse the unit has been "abused", best part of it was when my mate bought one for himself, we used it at a gig that very evening and what happened the thing seized in exactly the same way, postin a clip of my XDJ R1 the night i got it back after 5 weeks in for repairs, now still not wanting to replace my unit, i have to send it back for them to test, lol now they wanna test it. .....did i mention LOL that all i do is dj, over season made new contacts etc new gigs booked, thanks to ProAudio in GAUTENG, they are the only guys qualified to work with pioneer in our side of the world, so you can imagine, not every unit is faulty it seems, but yeah, anyway my issues towards the middle thats when my cue and play buttons suddenly because unresponsive sometimes they work sometimes not till eventually the last seize and they nothing worked and i was accused of "abusing" my DJ station..... so for safety's safe, make visual notes of all your units errors and copies of the emails with complaints, cos 6 weeks ago i was playing every day at gigs here in cape town, i play 2 maybe a week now thanks to Pioneers amazing technical knowledge of their equipment (NO disrespect to any of the Pioneer Branches anywhere else in the world im sure whatever the issue you guys would still be more efficient than the incompetent people Pioneer have at PRO AUDIO in CAPE TOWn

the link is in regards to my clip of my unit crashing after being repaired for 5 weeks of nothing
@Brent > Your video only shows "after" and you don't give any information on what happened in getting to that point. Could you please describe the steps prior to the crash or try and get a video of the before/during/after?
The engineers have asked the following:
・XDJ-R1
Firmware version
・Remotebox connected or not?
→ If connected, type of iDevice, iOS version and Remotebox version
・Where was your track when R1 froze or crashed? In CD or USB?
・Which did you operate immediately before freeze or crash? XDJ-R1 or iDevice?
・Did you play the tracks in a USB device?
→ If your answer is “Yes”, we need the following information.
- Are the tracks analyzed by Rekordbox or not?
- What model of USB device did you use?
- When you exported the tracks in your computer to a USB device, did you use an Apple product or other products than Apple?
→ If you used an Apple product, what is the version of the device (Mac, iPad, etc.) and OS version?
-Did the freeze and crash occur with a specific USB device?
Or does it occur with multiple USB devices? This information will be very helpful for reproducing the issue and hopefully solving it.
・XDJ-R1
Firmware version - 1.09
・Remotebox connected or not? - yes
→ If connected, type of iDevice, iOS version and Remotebox version - Ipad2 16GB IOS ver. 7.03
・Where was your track when R1 froze or crashed? In CD or USB? - USB
・ Which did you operate immediately before freeze or crash? XDJ-R1 or iDevice? I went thru a playlist with the XDJ rotary selector, Stopped on a track hit the rotary selector, and hit it again to load the track to the deck (right deck) and it freezed.
・Did you play the tracks in a USB device? - Yes
→ If your answer is “Yes”, we need the following information.
- Are the tracks analyzed by Rekordbox or not? - Yes
- What model of USB device did you use? - Sandisk cruzer fit 32GB.
- When you exported the tracks in your computer to a USB device, did you use an Apple product or other products than Apple? - No
→ If you used an Apple product, what is the version of the device (Mac, iPad, etc.) and OS version?
-Did the freeze and crash occur with a specific USB device? - No
Or does it occur with multiple USB devices? - Yes
Hi Pulse did the engineers have any luck reproducing this problem?
In my opinion, its a Wi-Fi conflict problem with other mobile devices interfering with the traffic between the R-1 and the host device, (iPad/iPod etc),
Pioneer should reconfigure the the R-1 's mobile signal (by way of a update), so it doesn't get picked up by other mobile devices on the same network,
but can still be picked up by the portable device controlling it, it may need a Remotebox update to complete this.
Hi,
Had an R1 freeze at the weekend,
had a cd in each drawer
Hard Drive connected via USB
Ipad connected via WIFI
left hand deck playing from CD
Right hand deck playing from Hard drive connected by USB
whilst browsing songs on the ipad (using ipad not selector on the R1) it started to display the message that the wifi connection had failed, i kept pressing try again but nothing. came out of the remotebox app to find no wifi connection on ipad, went into settings and could not find the R1 wifi to connect to. Then suddenly the unit froze and had a buzzing sound coming from the unit, no response from buttons on the unit.
To remedy I had to switch unit to standby and reboot.
To me this sounds like what "Adrian Griffiths" mentions above, it may be near impossible to recreate the issue as I have know idea how many people at the gig may have been using wifi, I wasn't able to video as I was more concerned with rectifying the problem and getting the party started again. This shouldn't be an issue on a pro machine
If Pioneer have any further info on this I would be greatful of some advice
Many thanks,
Jon
Hi Jon, try this,
Change your WLAN Security Setting from WEP128 to WEP64 , enter a new 5 digit password, then restart the unit ,
in my theory most mobile devices are more likely to pick up WEP128 and interfere with the unit's wireless connection, have had mine on WEP64 for a while now and it seems to be behaving ok,
Don't forget to change the password on your Apple device
If you don't know how to do this, you can Download the R-1 PDF manual online.- good luck!!
Pioneer should reconfigure the the R-1 's mobile signal (by way of a update), so it doesn't get picked up by other mobile devices on the same network.
The only way to do this would be for it not to broadcast the SSID, which, unfortunately, is not an option. You'd be better off choosing another channel (or possibly setting the unit to AUTO).
I have also been experiencing pretty similar issues that Brent Thought has been having.
I ever use my unit 95% of the time via VDJ and have now had the unit freeze over a dozen times!
At the point the unit freezes it will carry on playing sound but none of the controls work any more, the only way to get the unit to work again is to power it off and back on again. Here is a short video of the unit freezing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5li2wUD3sA&list=UU7b5cl4AXODfoWzLRizkM4Q
Not to mention the volume issue of the faders changing on there own, which in your bedroom is not noticeable, but playing on a bigger club system is very noticeable.
I make sure i have the WiFi turned off and the unit is on firmware 1.09, my unit has been back to the dealer who "tested the unit" and said they could find nothing wrong with it. They refused to send it back to pioneer saying they would get charged by them for a non-fault repair return.
I'm at the point now where im thinking of taking legal action now, as the unit is not fit for use and i constantly need to have an ipod with a range of music on it for when it will freeze. It wasnt cheap and the fact that pioneer and their dealers refuse to see there is an issue is poor service.
Pioneer really need to sort the huge list of issues that this unit has been reported of having, as this is not the quality we expect from the DJings world no1 brand.
Mel
@Mel > I've asked the engineers if they have any ideas.
I had this issue on mine - tried everything to stop it, but to no avail, finally I reverted the firmware back to 1.05 using a brand new usb stick (Sandisk cruzer glide 32gb ), then updated it from 1.05 to 1.10 firmware, finally I changed the WEP settings from 128 to 64 and changed the password,
I have had no issues since, believing that a cheap, corrupt usb stick was to blame, I also never run it in XDJ-R1 mode, always in PC mode, especially when I need to run Virtual Dj,
Finally If you are running Virtual Dj a lot, you may need to turn your Laptop Usb power saving function off,
Hope this helps.
Thanks Pulse - any help would be appreciated
Adrian - I have the WiFi turned off as i never use it, so don't think making those changes would have any effect.
But i do use the unit in R1 mode rather then internal, as that stops the latency you get when using it in VDJ using the up faders and crossfader.
How did you downgrade the firmware? I thought that was not possible?
To be honest regardless of all these fixes being suggested, it should just all work.
There should be none of this 2you should do this to fix that" kind of approach. I use my laptop all the time in clubs with CDJ 900s / 2000s with no issues what so ever.
Also forget to add, i use no power savings anywhere on my Laptop, its in high power mode the whole time and never use it without the power being connected.
Hi Mel,
When I said power settings, I ment Usb power settings which are located in Device Manager - Universal serial bus controllers, not power saving controls, but it may not make much difference anyway,
If you use Virtual Dj a lot, perhaps you should sell the R-1 and buy the Aero instead, the latency on the R-1 is poor at best,as it was only designed mostly for the Rekordbox program, and apple device connectivity, to accompany the Cd players built in, I also have the aero, and believe me it it the best portable Dj system currently on the market, incorporating wireless connectivity from your phone, andriod / apple device and laptop, as well as running Virtual Dj flawlessly at all times,
if you are still going to persevere with the R-1 and want to revert it back to firmware 1.05 and start again, email me at -
GRIFFITHS-ADRIAN1@sky.com and I will explain how to do it.
Adrian.
Hi Adrian,
Appreciate the assistance in this, but I fully understand what you meant and about all the power settings on a pc, i work for a large bank in windows engineering dept, so know more then most in regard to windows. Also i forgot to mention that i also tried my macbook pro 1 night as a test, to rule out the my normal laptop about 4 weeks ago and the result was the same.... still froze up and problems with the faders reducing the sound level on there own, as well as the hiss noise through the balanced outputs.
So the problem isn't that the usb is going to sleep, its a problem with the unit. I took the advice and spoke to Pioneer yesterday, both customer services and the regional service centre who both agreed that as my unit has multiple faults it should be replaced by the dealer.
Unfortunately, the reason i went and sold my old setup of 2x CDJ1000mk3 and a DJM 600, which after 8 years of greats service and never one issue, was to get this unit, as it offered me the controller ability as well all the CDJ capabilities (as i still use some CD's) with some kind of DJM mixer effects on board in a small package. The Aero will not give me this.
For now i will see what the dealer has to say and go from there, as i don't want to mess about with the unit while its still in warranty and invalidate anything or to be accused of misuse of the device.
Mel
Friends, I come to time following all the posts here in the forum about XDJ-r1 and I confess, makes me surprised so many complaints, because I have my equipment since October / 13 and never hear any freezing problem as I see people mention here. I use the remote box + rekordbox 3.0 and scandisk pendrive 32gb, and also the traktor 2.6.8 with a white macbook with lion 10.7 and am currently with the last update "1.10". do not use the official map of the pionner because when I bought my XDJ nor had available, so a friend and rode part modesty, my mapping this much better than the official pionner. I use all my weekends XDJ and never had any problem even. I have 2 more friends here in my town with the same equipment and none of them also have these complaints ... would be lucky? I get so many complaints and some times getting very scared during my presentations.
most of all problems came with the connection of R1 with Ipad, in my case.
i have 3 crush in 3 partys and i never again connect with ipad.
now i play with PC and Virtua dj with no problems.
if you play with usb flash disks or Hard disks and no ipad, you dont have problems like we have.
hello everyone, i just received my xdjr1 and my first impression was " this machine is amazing" . That was until i tried to actually use it, I have the same problems as everyone else, the bpm doesn't work it decides to change when it feels like it. My cd's skip and sometimes just stop completely. It came with version 1.09 and the worst part is that when i try to upgrade to version 1.10 it won't let me, it just says "download" . I've tried using different usb sticks but nothing seems to work. is anyone having the same problem with the upragde process?
I know I complain a lot bout the R1 LOL *fml* but has anyone everyone that has upgraded their Firmware to 1.10, my R1(3rd replacement) I've had for 9 months, it came with Firmware 1.8 I did upgrade it to 1.09 and until recently about a week ago 1.10, being tired of complaining to Pioneer because it falls on deaf ears, since 1.10 upgrade my unit freezes 3 times during a 4 hour set, without fail, also I notice the pitch is now temperamental, I say that because I play progressive psy, tonight at my gig what I normally play at 142 bpm I was playing at 145 bpm, because 142 was too slow, the machines bpm is off, also I find that my sound output is gradually degrading, I don't redline my channels but lately the unit sounds like it's getting softer and softer and softer, as if its struggling to push out sound where in the beginning I would only turn up the master halfway and the gains at a quarter to get what I need volume wise I now have to run the master at 80-90 % full throttle, it's as if my units dying lol, the right channel on all three units I've had starts having issues of cutting out and sometimes I've found if I turn. My headphone volume up or down it affects the entire unit. LoL my biggest issue is sound output tho and the pitch issue, normally moving the slider up or down its instant and u can hear the change in bpm but when i did it tonight my entire set sounded so slow.... yet now when I got home started it up to test it, the pitch works fine bpm back to normal.... I spent so much money on pioneer equipment yet the support for the R1 is shit, someone mentioned that the shops I buy the R1s from blame pioneer say it's there issue, and pioneer says they're not responsible blame the shops, the R1 is a brilliant concept, but as far as I'm concerned PIONEER should recall all the units, SORT URE SHIT OUT.
I still happening, I have the firmware 1.11, and remotebox 1.2.0
Got the loud buzzing tone and complete lockup of the device today. Was on firmware 1.10 though, so I'll try 1.12
Here's the noise it makes, captured through USB using Audacity (Microphone (PIONEER XDJ-R1))
Not used as a controller, and not linked to RekordBox via USB, or the built in WiFi enabled.
Do you use remotebox?
That happened to me when I had my XDJ-R1 connected to an ungrounded outlet, my installation is grounded, but the plug does not. One way to know if you are not connected to ground is that the metal parts of XDJ-R1, including the Jog Dial, vibrates with electricity
@Alistair > What was the source at the time? Can you provide detail as to the USB source and what kind of track (file format) and if you can repeat the problem with that same track?
@PULSE - Deck1 was was playing an AIFF file, Deck 2 was a standard MP3 file, both had been through RekordBox. I was then browsing on Desk2 when the deck locked. No buttons made any difference to the noise, No sliders seemed to make any difference to the noise.
I have since updated my firmware, so will keep trying, and will load in the same order and try and follow the same route to see if I get the crash.
USB is a HP 2.0 16Gb device.
I've since scanned every sector of the USB device for errors, none found.
USB out was connected to my PC to record the mix.
No iPad/iPhone was connected to the deck. No CDs were in the deck.
Thanks.
@Alistair > Thanks for the info. Are you able to consistently crash it with either of those tracks?
@PULSE - Not a prob. As soon as I can either get it to lock with the same symptoms, or by repeating a certain process, I'll update here.
@pulse Recordbox have to better analyze mp3 to find corrupt files. Corrupt files are to blame for most of freeze
@Jordi > Believe me, it's something I've been asking for since rekordbox was first released.
Almost a month on and I've not had any locks. I never noted down what the tracks were that locked on me, so afraid I've not since tried the exact same sequence. So at the moment, All's well :)
