CDJ-400 Big Problems

Hi all

Ok, got some right problems with a CDJ-400-K

Ok, firstly, the play button does nothing when the unit is in VINYL mode. The button will blink as if it were paused, but then pressing it again does nothing but change the colour to a contant one, also during this, if the unit is in VINYL mode, there are the 2 little lights at the top and bottom of the platter, which I've not seen before... Additionally, the play button DOES work when NOT in vinyl mode, however, when its paused, the music is paused but is playing the paused section in a continuous noise that you can hear through headphones

Ok, and the next problem is... that the pitch control, between about 1.0-3% + & - on all ranges will sit and vary randomly by itself without touching anything. Its fine up to about 1% and beyond about 3%, but between these ranges, it will cycle up and down at complete random and sometimes comes to rest after a long time on the wrong setting...

Any ideas? Seems <SNIP> keep it clean please! </SNIP> to me... :(

I bought 2 together and the other one is working perfect, not sure why this one has given up, iv not dropped and bumped them at all.

@Tony > The "constant noise" when not in vinyl mode is perfectly normal - that's CDJ mode, and it's known as "stutter cue." That was the ONLY way to cue audio on a CDJ before vinyl mode was available!

The bigger problem seems your platter is likely stuck, and it could be due to the jog ring. Check this video for a fix I posted 5 years ago, see if that helps you.

As for the pitch, that sounds like the pitch fader is shot. You can get that replaced fairly easily, it's a pretty standard part and any electronics repair shop could likely do that for you, but you can always contact Pioneer DJ technical support to find an authorized service centre near you to have that done.

The platter turns freely, theres no resistance like in that video... could this still be the case?

It could be the platter switch is damaged and would need repair. Because the CDJ-400 uses a pressure-switch for the jog surface to engage "vinyl mode," if undue pressure was placed upon the platter either in storage or a case, it could have compressed the switch to a point where it no longer "reacts" and thus is permanently detecting a "press."

Ok... so how might I go about fixing this? I've sent a message to Pioneer like you suggested.

Contacting tech support would be the best bet, they can direct you to a repair shop or to the parts necessary if you're looking to repair it yourself.
