Rekordbox 6 cloud library sync functionality (file copying)

Purchased a dropbox 2TB account and have successfully synced between two laptops.

Started with entire library on main laptop. Organised how I like it.

When you add the dropbox desktop app it creates a 'dropbox' folder in your %user% folder and when you add Rekordbox it creates a 'Rekordbox' folder within. All fine and normal.

When you mark a track in Rekordbox to be uploaded to the cloud for sharing, it creates a copy of the file in the dropbox/rekordbox folder. This is then uploaded and changes made within Rekordbox are successfully synced to the cloud and synced to other devices. really quickly and well actually, if I add a hot cue to a track on one laptop the hot cue appears within the loaded track on the other track within a couple of minutes all with no intervention, all good.

The problem with this is that if you upload your entire collection to the cloud or even large playlist it creates a copy of every track on the laptop in the dropbox folder. If you right click on the shared track in Rekordbox and go show in explorer it shows it in the dropbox folder, not your original file.

1. Can you confirm that any changes you make to the file tag etc in Rekordbox are not being made to the original file, they are only being made to the copy of the file in the dropbox folder? Or are changes made being copied back to the original file?

If a previously shared file is marked as 'move to local storage' it returns to it's original location (Rekordbox shows it there when asked to show in Explorer).

2. If a previously shared file is moved to local storage what happens to the copy in the dropbox folder? Is it deleted or does it just sit there taking up drive space?

3. Is there a way to disable the copying of the files to the dropbox folder? I guess most people don't have space on their laptop to hold two copies of all of the files they want to cloud share (I do but I really don't want to have two copies on the same laptop).

I guess I could move (in Windows) my entire collection to the dropbox folder and then get Rekordbox to relocate them, in that way the entire collection will be in one place, I will only have one copy on the laptop and all will be synced in dropbox automatically? Really annoying to have to do that to overcome short sighted standard functionality though.

4. The copies in the dropbox folder all have their file names truncated. This is not critical in any way but really annoying and frustrating when there are four different files all with the mix part chopped off the end of the names...

The documentation on the Rekordbox cloud storage function is woefully light and inappropriate. It has taken a full day for me to work out the actual behavior and what is happening to my files and on my laptops by trial and error. My audio library is the result of years and years of work, it's all backed up securely but if it's going to be manipulated and moved and copied on my laptop(s) I want to know exactly what's happening and what the potential implications are.

Thanks for this feedback on #4. I just signed up for the Creative plan trial to test things out. I might have to rethink this.

The 'move' instead of 'copy' option is the way to go if space is an issue.

#1 & 2 you could test with copies of music you have by adding (test) in front of them.

But agree, a more extensive guide on this feature would be useful. Especially when they're asking people to commit to a subscription.

Hello,
I confirm the same problem,

I have the professionnal Plan since some years, but don't use it due to the constraints.

I hav a very large collection and not far from 1.8 TB.
I have a folder organisation of my tracks.

The solution provide is to use a dropbox account for sync tracks to the Cloud, and to options for Cloud Library Sync: Move or Copy

If I Activate the Cloud Library Sync:
- Move option: Move all the tracks to the Dropbox folder with another folder organisation.
=> You lost Our Folder Organisation
=> You lost Tag Administration.
=> You lost file administration and don't can compare and know what you have or not.
- Copy option : Alla tracks are copied to the Dropbox folder with another folder organisation.
=> We save our personal folder organistion.
=> We lost tag administration, due that the "local" folder is not more used by Rekordbox for tracks Cloud Library Sync + You don't have a sync between your "local" and dropbox folder.
=> We lost space on the computer. 2 * 1.8TB is very too expansive..

I have think to Self MOVE my collection on the Dropbox folder, and relocate tracks...
OK my Collection is synchronized on the Dropbox Cloud.
=> You don't have a Cloud Library Sync Solution and capability to use it on your smartphone. You must Activate Cloud Library Solution on Rekordbox.
And this activation strength you to Choose COPY OR MOVE it...
We end up with the same initial problem.

The Cloud Library Sync is not a REAL CLOUD SOLUTION, but an assembly of tricks.

A real Cloud Solution take your files and synchronize it witout move or copy it on your desktop, and take informations of your tracks for use it on other rekordbox devices.

Not much is missing to get there ... An interval solution without lost our "local" organisation and management... Give a solution to Activate Cloud Library Sync and respect our personal Organizational folders...

1- Explain to move library on Dropbox folder and relocate tracks (big constraint)  and activate Cloud Library Sync for take tracks informations and give it available on other rekordbox devices

OR

2 - MOVE tracks to dropbox with our folder organization, folders and tracks files names. just move, not change it.. Relocate it automatically, and activate Cloud Library Sync functions by taking tracks informations and give it available on other rekordbox devices.

=> You have Cloud Library Sync functions for use tracks on other Rekordbox devices
=> You have Cloud Play Directly capacity
=> You have Cloud Synchro files if needed
=> You respect original tracks fils name, organisation and availability to modify tags on the original track.

OR ... the best:

3 - Found a solution to Actiavte Cloud Library Sync, Synch files and folders to the Cloud without COPY or MOVE IT to another Folder.

Best solution: Start with songs in Dropbox, then import to rekordbox - they're already online.

Second best, if you already have songs in rekordbox, move them all to Dropbox outside of rekordbox, then relocate.

DON'T COPY ANYTHING, you'll just make a mess with duplicates.
