Just solved it!
I did reinstall the system twice, the first time it did not work.
But actually what I think made the difference is that I cleaned the lighting port, careful with a pin, remove all the lint. I knew the connection was flaky since it would disconnect every so often when I connected it to the computer, but never though this would affect the midi connection and not the audio connection .... I guess since there are 2 interfaces (audio and midi) probably that midi interface has to use different pins and thats why the audio was recognized but not the midi ...
Of course, what do I know, I'm just guessing here.
Just wanted to share my ideas in case this could help anybody else
