Time to take this seriously - Sharing Rekordbox database over Dropbox

Hey there,

I've been a professional dj for quite some time now and never had any (big) problems with Pioneer hardware or software. I use Rekordbox weekly to organise my music into playlists and i'm quite happy with it.

There's only one thing that has been bothering me for a couple of years now. I always thought it would get fixed or thought of when the next version of rb came out but it never did.

Just like many professional dj's, i'm using an iMac in my home studio, and a Macbook on the go during my gigs. I've got an internal 1tb ssd in both of them which is plenty to store my entire music collection.

My entire music collection is stored on a Dropbox pro account aswel as my iTunes database file. So whenever i open a song on one of the two macs it is automatically added to the iTunes library on Dropbox. This means that the next time i open up iTunes on the Macbook or vice versa, all my new songs automatically appear on the list.

Why is it that this isn't yet possible with Rekordbox? This should be one of the very basic features of professional dj software.

Yes, i know that this could be done by moving all music to an external hard drive and placing the rb database on the drive aswel. But hey, it's 2017 and i don't want to carry my external drive around especially since i've got plenty of space left on my internal hard drives. It just needs to be synced over dropbox.

Also good to mention: Since everything is stored on Dropbox, the structure of the folders is exactly the same on both macs with the only difference being the drive itself and location of the Dropbox folder. If i could just rename the 'root' folder or drive rekordbox is searching in for music files...

Also, when using the relocate missing files function, rekordbox only searches in the specific folder you're pointing at and doesn't look in to folders that are placed inside that 'main' folder. Which leads to (when using an iTunes organised library) finding just about 5 files.

This just doesn't make any sense and it should've been fixed 2 years ago.

Maybe there's a workaround that i not know of?

Thanks in advance!

There is; I have the unofficial solution, which you can email me for - pulse at djpulse dot canada (but remove the nada part).

I can't provide the instructions here on the forums as it's not an officially supported method and requires you to edit some files which could cause some loss or damage to your database if you don't follow the instructions properly.

Requested a similar feature last year; there has to be a simpler way of syncing changes to a single database across multiple devices?

I have the same set up as Senne, bizarre I can't use my laptop to audition mixes when I prep on my imac. Love for this to be resolved
