Troublesome half-year with Pioneer DJ products

Dear Pioneer,

I've been your loyal customer for about 7.5 years and satisfied with your products around 7 years. The end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017 has been really the game changers for me.

First I started to have distortion problems with DDJ-SX. I knew that it might originate from my laptop but I still decided to sell my SX and buy SX2 because I got it cheap. The problem still appeared occasionally so I formatted my computer. Now the distortion problem has not been around for two gigs. So it might be fixed. But as I got the new DDJ-SX2 I immediately noticed a jog sensitivity setting problem and it’s still not fixed (I took it to Pioneer repair company and it turned out that it is a problem with the latest firmware but no updates released).

I was planning to get Pioneer's standalone controller and use it also with Rekordbox DJ + Rekordbox Video. I just wanted to test the program before buying the pricey controller. I compared Serato Video and RekordBox Video and most of the time RekordBox Video's CPU usage was around DOUBLE compared to Serato Video (doing exactly the same things and none of the programs were analyzing at the time).

Yes, I know that more than 100% CPU usage is not harmful. I still prefer to play with Serato Video smoothly with half of the CPU usage. This is really a shame because the RekordBox DJ and Rekordbox Video would have potential... According to other customer's forum messages, you've struggled with the CPU usage for a long time. Is there any light in the end of the tunnel? I was hoping to stick with Pioneer but because I want to have standalone controller with smooth video operating, I might not have other option than go with competitor's standalone controller with full Serato support. I still want to thank you for delivering really reliable products for 7 years!

A big thanks for your (possible) answer in advance.

@7dj > There are plenty of reasons it might crash, even with a good-spec computer. Our software team recently discovered an issue with a specific model of MacBook where the audio buffer would run out after a certain amount of time -- and it had no issues with other configurations of operating system / hardware, just that specific model of hardware.

I will direct you to file a support inquiry ticket here and our rekordbox team will be happy to assist in troubleshooting this issue further for you.

Hey @7dj,

Each release of rekordbox video sees the CPU usage decrease, while increasing performance and quality. Your CPU usage will vary depending on the computer hardware you're using. Personally, I've run it on a 2012 MacBook Pro beside a 2015 MacBook Pro, both with 16GB RAM and both with i7 processors, and they both operate smoothly. The 2012 model will run a slightly higher processor use, but I don't feel worried about the reliability or performance from either unit.

Hi @Pulse,

Thank you for your response.

For some reason I decided to give Pioneer a chance once again and bought XDJ-RX. I just thought that I'll do my Video gigs with Serato Video and other controller and maybe some day in near future Pioneer will release an update for Rekordbox Video so that it would operate smoothly. But I realized that the video is not the only problem with Rekordbox. I was doing my 6 hour gig and Rekordbox crashed two times (in performance/XDJ-RX MIDI mode). So, for me Rekordbox in performance mode is useless. I can't do gigs with it because it might crash any moment... When will Pioneer get a grip with the software? Pioneer's hardware never let's you down but hope that one day Rekordbox software is as reliable as the hardware.

(My system: Mid 2014 15" MBPR / 2.2 i7 / 16GB)
