No Headphone Audio After Closing Rekordbox

Hello I am running RekordBox (v. 4.2.5 - the latest) in Windows 10 and whenever I close the application I can no longer hear audio through my headphones. I can hear audio through the laptop built in speakers but not the headphones. I have to restart the machine to get the headphone audio back. I have updated my audio drivers and all relevant Pioneer drivers.

What can I do!?!

@Samuel > What do you mean you can no longer hear audio through your headphones?

When rekordbox is running, it takes full use of the audio drivers for the hardware (I'm guessing a DDJ or XDJ-RX?). If you want to use it for Windows system sounds after you're done using rekordbox, you need to assign it back to Windows as @ragdoll notes in his comment below.

Try windows audio settings by not letting/or letting  Rekordbox to take exclusive control of the playback device.

Right click on loudspeaker (bottom right corner) and Playback device >Pioneer > advanced

@Pulse - What I mean is that before opening Rekordbox I can hear audio through the laptop speakers and headphone jack.  As soon as I close Rekordbox, the audio cuts out through the headphone jack but I can still hear audio through the laptop speakers.  It's so strange.  I have to restart the machine in order to get ANY audio back through the headphones jack.

I am ONLY using Rekordbox to sort Collections/Playlists and export to USB stick.  I am not connecting it to any Pioneer players/devices.

When I start up Rekordbox (not connected to any Pioneer devices) I only see "Speakers" and "Realtek Digital Output" as options in the Sound > Playback Devices menu.

So I'm still not sure what to do here...thanks for the help!

UPDATE!!!!

So I think the issue is with the Realtek HD Audio Drivers.  When I ran Windows Troubleshooter on the Audio issues it reverted back to the generic Windows Audio Drivers and the sound came back on through the headphones like before (without having to restart the machine).  Fixed!

To confirm things, I went to Device Manager and no longer saw any trace of Realtek Audio drivers.  I then updated the audio driver from there and it reinstalled Realtek.  So reran the test of opening and closing Rekordbox and sure enough, the audio through the headphones jack cut out again.  So it's related to Realtek.

I performed a final test where I opened and closed Rekordbox again, lost headphone sound...but this time I PUT THE MACHINE TO SLEEP.  After waking it up, the sound came on through the headphone jack again!!!!!

So my options are one of the following:

(1) Revert back to generic Windows audio drivers (non-Realtek drivers)

(2) Quickly put the machine to sleep and wake it back up

Again, the sound ALWAYS works through the laptop speakers.  The audio drop out are only through the headphone jack after closing Rekordbox.

So strange.  At least I have a work around (putting the machine to sleep) but I'm still curious about everyone's thoughts.
