about using an external drive on rekordbox dj?

i notice you can't use an usb drive or an external drive when you go on performance mode on rekordbox dj only on export mode. on export you can see the divice but dosen't show on perfomance.why is that. will that ever get fix? thanks

An export drive can also be the source location of your collection's files and database, but I don't recommend it as it would double the used space (the original files + the exported files; no, it can't simply use the same ones).

Your export drive is not available in performance mode because the export database type is different - it's designed to be read by players. This is something we hope to see changed in a future update of rekordbox.

A second database is not available to be loaded simultaneously as the software is currently only capable of reading one database at a time. This loops back to the item above and is the main reason the export database can't be loaded. Again, we hope that this will be changed in a future update of rekordbox, as this functionality would allow another DJ to load their content for a back-to-back or DJ transition.

If you want to use your database and music on an external drive, as @Phillip says - it makes moving between computers convenient, you can follow the instructions in this knowledge base article.

Hi Steven I use an external hard drive on performance mode when I play out most weeks, however the external drive is where my RekordBox database is.

Are you talking about connecting an additional USB or external drive so that two DJs can play from the same laptop? If so this has been talked about quite a bit I think in this forum but isn't yet available (anyone else feel free to correct me if I am wrong)

Yeah just using an USB drive or external hard. Here the thing when on performance mode only way I see it can be use if I drag tracks it to iTunes and then use it. Wanted to know if u can just read out the drives without using iTunes? On performance mode u can't see the drive no where. How do u use yours colesy? Thanks brother

If your RB database is on your actual hard drive then you will need to ensure you are pointing RekordBox towards that database. This is done on the screen below (see bottom option called 'Database management')

Is this for rekordbox Dj or just rekordbox? And another thing will it pop up on rekordbox Dj with my playlist? Cuz I do have a rekordbox database. Thanks 🙏 colesy!

I use an external hdd on rekordbox dj and the external database is there too. Easy to transfer from desktop to laptop just plugg in the external hdd with rekordbox tracks and database into the pc i am using.
