Beat Gridding Woes

Hello, I am having issues with beat gridding and getting loops to land on the beat grid. I have attached a video I made for this problem. I called tech support for Pioneer earlier and spoke with one of the techs and she suggested I make an inquiry to and attach a video if necessary. I thought I would also reach out and share the video here. I know sometimes Tech can get backed up and I may find a fix here faster. Anyway, I would greatly appreciate any feedback or something I missed.

@Bobby > As soon as I saw you were trying to beat-grid Journey, I knew exactly what the problem was -- you've likely analysed everything in "Normal" mode, which is used for songs with a consistent beat (electronic drum track). You want to analyse it in "Dynamic" mode (change this in the preferences) temporarily, then confirm the beat gridding, adjusting as needed.

Trust me, this will be a MASSIVE help in creating a grid for tracks like this!

In the video the left deck had quantize on but the right didn't.  Turn that on and it will snap to the grid!

Yes I have tried quantize to use it, but I still get really bad drifting on manual drum songs.

You will have to "Warp" the manual drum trax for perfect sync ( I do this to play my Disco) or do it manually in the program by going to "GRID" and using the "Adjust from this position feature" in Rekordbox

I checked this quickly in my Library. The song has a pretty unstable BPM as lots of songs with real drummer :-)

I had to adjust the beat grid and potentially the BPM throughout the entire song to have a perfect match. It took me a few minutes to do it with this song.

Traktor might be more advanced in this manner but you can do it wit rekordbox as well.

@Pulse originally yes I did analyze using Normal, but after watching your video on beatgridding transitions, I used Dynamic. I believe that was before I started this thread. What ended up working was to manually click each beat in Export mode. then I locked the beat markers into place. It now works exactly how I want it to.

On a side note, Traktor DJ uses a third decimal point ex. 120.XXX and I see RekordBox only uses 2 decimal points ex. 120.xx

I've been told by other DJs who use both softwares, that the third decimal point makes all the difference in the "auto beat gridding" process.

No, a 3rd decimal point won't make that big a deal. The difference between 120.01 and 120.02 BPM is only 10ms, or a difference of 0.008% -- and besides, the system is probably already providing a higher degree of accuracy in the grids than is shown on the display.

@Pulse, then I guess Traktor just has better auto beat gridding capabilities? Not sure, but I don't mind manually adjusting the grid so long as I don't have to use Traktor.  =)

I can't say that they do or don't -- I don't use it often enough to be able to provide an authoritative statement on the quality or accuracy in comparison. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
