I'm guessing you're using Windows and haven't assigned fixed drive letter assignments to each of the drives, so it's possible when you connect the drive, it receives a different drive letter than the previous use, and as such, rekordbox can't find the files.

Start by assigning the drives each a unique letter (try X or Z, for example), do one more relocation (it will then update everything to that new drive letter), and see how that works.

I'm using a mac , i don't know if i have to assign the hard drives in using as master drive so that rekordbox only works when using them , i have also saved the entire playlist as xlm file if that helps, I'm going to try and unplug the hard drive and open recordbox and see if thats helped

No - a Mac doesn't need to do that, so long as each drive has a UNIQUE NAME.

I found out the hard way that having two drives named "PULSE" connected at the same time were actually mounted as:

"PULSE"
"PULSE 1"

The drives themselves show as "PULSE" on the desktop and in the finder, but for the system to access them, they must each mount with a unique path. It's possible that you might have had this scenario and thus the path for the songs imported to your collection didn't match when you reconnected the drive by itself (which wouldn't have the "1" at the end).
