Failed Library Export not working and has left corrupted files on my USBs

Hi Pioneer,

So I haven't been able to update my USBs using rekordbox for a while now due to not being able to export a library.

Yesterday I decided to give it another go as I had loads of new music to play with. I use a XDJ-R1 so I only require a single USB, which is a Kingston DataTraveler G4 3.0 16GB (Formatted FAT32) so not some cheap thing.

1st attempt I try exporting again to see if it'll work this time - I'd updated rekordbox twice since so was hoping that may help. No luck.

So I decided to clear the USB and reformat and start over. This is when I noticed that some of the Pioneer files on the USB couldn't be cleared, due to the fact that as soon as windows (8.1) attempted to access the files, the USB would malfunction and crash. When attempting to reformat the device, it still crashes. I have since then not tried to move any files on or off the USB.

At this point I think it's a one off, grab a fresh fully functioning USB, not a particularly high quality one but it served me well at uni so why not. It took ~7 hours to export my songs on to it (very happy when it finished), and I went to create a library. This failed again, and I was asked to remove the USB. I waited for rekordbox to eject it, then removed the device and plugged it back in.

I now receive the windows message telling me that the USB needs to be fixed, I did not before. If I go along with this and attempt a scan and repair, windows explorer crashes and my whole computer has a bit of a breakdown (bless it). This also happened with the previous USB, so I assume the same error has occurred.

I can use the USB on the decks, but only through the 'Contents' folder, and when you have ~1000 songs of 4 or 5 different genres littered with remixes, it's pretty much impossible to get anything done without your playlists.

Can my USBs be saved or do I have to buy more?

Does anyone else have this problem?

Is there way around this or will I just have to play with non-analysed tracks?

Should I just buy a Denon? (can we say that name here?)

Hope somebody can help :)

@Cameron > Sorry, the DataTraveler G4 is a cheap thing... I found several online sites selling it for less than $10, and you can see that from the fact it took 7 hours to export less than 16GB. I use USB drives that can export 16GB worth of songs from rekordbox in under 7 minutes, even the ones I consider to be "low quality" can still do that much in 20 minutes.

Please try a better quality USB drive first.

this just happened to me last week - same thing. And i'm using Stealth Survivor 64GB that has been working perfectly for 2 years. Twice on the same time instance it says "The Device has been removed while accessing it) - it hadn't and 'and the database maybe corrupted".

I've done a scan and both USBs and no errors found. I don't want to spend another 70 bucks on new USB if this one can be saved.

Any thoughts? Thank you!

@Fiona I went out and bought a high quality one for roughly £45 and still have the same issue.

It's not even the same image files that corrupt each time either- different songs for each USB that has fallen victim.

@Cameron - yeah I feel ya. I bought a new one and it has appeared to work properly - I won't know til my dj gig on Sunday night. But I'm afraid same thing will happen and also I've lost 2 good USBs.  ONe is completely dead, and one the expensive one, I'm hoping I can delete files and reformat - try again!
