External Hard Disk Drive to work with Rekordbox in Win and Mac

Hello everyone! I want to buy a new external hard drive to work with Rekordbox on windows and mac.

So, what brand and model can you recommend to me? I'm thinking in a 1TB external hard drive to have it for a long time...

It must be at FAT32 format for best performance, sure?

I'm looking forward your answers.

Thank you!

In order for the drive to work with both Mac and PC, yes, it must be formatted to FAT32.

I only recommend using solid-state hard drives for their performance and resistance to shocks and bumps. They cost more, but the time saved not waiting for data transfers is worth the additional cost of purchase. The top-performing Samsung EVO 850 in a 1TB model is selling for around $330USD - add an inexpensive enclosure and you've got yourself a fantastic storage option.

Thanks for the info. I understand the suggestion of a ssd, but it is a very expensive option to only store the songs and rekordbox database. My intention is not to use this hard drive with the CDJ or XDJ, just to store the music and rekordbox data. Could you recommend me a hard disk instead of a ssd?

Anything except for Western Digital Passport drives should be fine -- for some reason, those drives have always been an issue.

Bear in mind Windows and Macs reference the file locations differently (Windows uses drive letters, and Mac uses volume paths), so assuming you are trying to also share the main database, each time you swap between the two machines, you will need to "relocate" all of your tracks to set the correct paths again.
