recording vinyl from XDJ RX to Rekordbox via Mac

Hi.  New XDJ RX owner hear.

Im strung;ing with what I thought would be a basic issue, but can't seem to find a direct answer on the forums.

I want to record vinyl, via my XDJ RX, directly into Recordbox 5 (the free version) by linking my Mac to the XDJ.

I believe Rekordbox 5 now has the ability to record direct into it (like audacity)

The manual suggests to plug the recording device (in this case my Mac) into the USB 2 socket.  I have done this via a 'male to male' USB data cable with Rekordbox running but nothing happens.  Neither the Mac or the XDJ recognises each other.

If I connect a thumb drive to the XDJ thats fine - Can can record onto the USB stick and then put it in my Mac and import (but that takes time).  I want to record direct into Rekordbox.

Ive tried using the other type of USB cable into the rear of the XDJ (the 'big square' connector), but that just seems to activate midi mode as if Im trying sending tunes FROM the mac to the XDJ (but even that doesn't work - presumably thats because it'd designed for the full Rekordbox DJ software - not the free version).

But Im trying to send the recoding from the XDJ to the Mac.

Also tried connecting by ethernet but get nothing.

Is it right that I connect the Mac via the USB 2 output to record?

Or is recording only available in Rekordbox DJ (the paid version?)

Thanks.

@Stuart > NEVER connect two hosts together by a male-to-male USB cable! You are likely to fry one of the control boards as they are both providing 5V DC down the line, and they are not meant to be connected that way. In none of our product manuals does it describe or show the XDJ-RX being connected in that manner.

If you're wanting to record vinyl into rekordbox, you'll need to connect the turntable to the phono input on the XDJ-RX, connect the USB-B (that "D" shaped connector on the back of the unit) to the computer, and be sure you have installed the drivers for your operating system. Within rekordbox, configure the XDJ-RX as the audio device for playback and recording, and then you can record the input from the RX to rekordbox.

Hi, I have the set up exactly as described above, using an XDJ-RX, a MAC and Rekordbox.

However, when playing vinyl the recording level indicator in rekordbox does not have any activity - I guess this means that the master out on the XDJ-RX does not send to rekordbox, via the USB, when the channel input is set to Phono?

This obviously all works when the channel input is set to Deck

The XDJ-RX does not feature an inbound audio interface; it can play vinyl through the phono input, but does not have the capacity to record external inputs into the computer.

Hey Pioneer!

It can however send audio through Master out to Audio interface Input. You can record through your DAW and can then export audio and use in your Rekordbox. Would the recording be any good using this method or better going through Audio Interface with a Preamp instead?

@Joubin > That is entirely up to you as to how you want to record it. I can't say what's better, only what I'd find to be easiest.
