Working across two machines with music and DB in Dropbox?

Hi,

Will RB work across two Macs, that share a music library via dropbox? I have a laptop I'm going to be using with a controller at home, but when I'm at work I'd also like to beatgrid new tracks etc so when I get home I can jump straight on the laptop and start mixing. The Mac's have different user names, but once in dropbox the folder structure is obviously identical.

Is ok to use RB like this or do I need to do some extra steps?

Thanks

J L

Hey guys, thanks for your patience - I was secretly waiting for rekordbox 5 to come out so I was able to test it and ensure things were working properly. I'm happy to say it is, and I've posted my beta instructions here.

Please be sure to read the warning at the top!

You can not share the collection db, but you can share the Rekordbox.xml.

The rekordbox.xml and how it operates is not really that mysterious. look at this video https://youtu.be/rclskM3M1HE time index 27:00 and I show you all you need to know.

But keep in mind that for every modification (you added/modified a cue, your pal added a track etc) you'll have to re-export your entire collection as xml, upload that xml to the dropbox drive and make sure your pal does not overwrite it with his (so they are out of sync).

And for the shameless self promotion. I've written a tool specific for what you want to do The Rekordbox Track Backup Tool (RTBT). You can read all about it at https://sellfy.com/p/qgPS/

There is a big difference between moving your collection to (=making it a permanent new storage location) and sharing it to collaborate :)

Perhaps you misunderstood my post. I have no intention of collaborating with anyone.

Like the OP: "I'm looking to move everything to the cloud including my itunes library and rekordbox database and have them sync over multiple computers"

I already have my iTunes library on dropbox and it works perfectly between two my computers. Now I'd like to use RB at work and then get home and use it on a different computer so all of the track cues and loops etc are up to date. I don't want to have everything on a hard drive and carry that around, it seems inconvenient and a bit old fashioned.
