Well as exhausting as this was i can say this problem has been solved for me, you can use this thread as an example. I first noticed all these problems after i upgraded from mavericks to Yosemite, thats when it stopped working for me. I assume there was a bug in the system. For me i have time capsule so my entire computer is backed up, so I completely wiped my computer and done a clean install and migrated all my information over. I excluded copying system settings and network settings. Drastic but it worked i now have full link function again. I would only recommend doing that after someone has tried everything i have done in this thread and if you have somewhere to backup your computer contents.
