Rekord Box 3.2.1 lost all playlists

Hi guys

Two days ago I opened Rekord Box and had all my previous playlists on the left hand side under the playlist sub menu.  I create folders for every gig and there was a wealth of playlists.

Today, I have opened Rekord Box and every single playlist and playlist folder has disappeared.  I am now having to manually export the original playlist data from my last gig into a text file, go back to my collection, and re-input manually.  Extremely frustrating and time consuming, especially as I have a gig tonight.

I have also set Rekord Box to back up, yet it seems to have only saved the last back up in 2014 as a .edb file.

Help greatly appreciated

If you opened up the folder with your database, were there multiple database backups in that folder? rekordbox automatically stores a backup each time you open / close the application.

Hi Pulse

In the folder containing my collection there are no multiple database backups.  Even though it has been enabled in the software, it's almost as though since I did the update it has completely eliminated all the previous information.

Here you can see the backups that rekordbox has automatically created from simply opening / closing the software on my machine:

You're saying there are none of those resident in the rekordbox folder?

Correct. When you go into that folder only two old logs remain, everything else has completely disappeared. This only SEEMS to have happened since the Rekord box update was done. It even worked initially with all my playlists present, and has then sporadically lost every single one

Can you take a screenshot of that folder for me?

Sure, here is the screenshots from two of Rekordbox's folders.  As you can see, it is as though its removed everything and this was since the latest update.

You're not looking in the right folder, there's far too few files in there. Are you going to /Users/yourusername/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox ?

That image only loaded once ... perhaps don't use such a horrible, ad-laden, image host next time (sorry we've lost our ability for users to attach images).

What I saw was multiple backups created on the 16th, well after you reported the issue. So clearly you opened / closed the application more than 3 times which bumped out any possibility of recovering from a backup. The only saving grace might be if you have a TimeMachine or other backup system capable of rolling back to the start of June to recover those backup databases.

Yes, because I have had several gigs that I have had to still do whilst battling with this issue. So I have needed to access Rekordbox several times.

My playlists still have not appeared again, despite using Time Machine to roll back

If you used TimeMachine, you would need to make sure that the database files were available to the backup, and that they are dated prior to June 4th. You should then be able to take that backup file and rename it to the working file (make a copy of it). If all goes properly, your data should be available and your playlists visible.

Sadly though even if I did that, all music added since then I would loose and need to re-import again, together with relevant tagging information. Or is that not the case?

It also still does not explain why Rekordbox decided to 'loose' all of my playlists without warning

In that case, consider this option -- make a copy of your current database. Load up the TimeMachine database from late May. Export your playlists. Re-load the current database, import the playlists.

Is there no way to just import the playlist information? Presumably that is embedded within the backup files? If not it would be so so useful to have a master playlist file that RekordBox also saves which you could just load up in instances like this :)

You need to select each playlist, right-click and Save Playlist Info > *.m3u8

It's not the most graceful solution, but with all that's happened, this, at least, should get your playlists back.
