When using iTunes Library on an External Hard Drive Rekordbox is syncing to an older version of the iTunes xml directory and not to the latest modified version of the same xml file (there are not multiple xml's) yet the library synced is from 2011 and not the latest 2014 playlists and tracks.

figured it out. you cannot sync it to the xml file on the external. it must be synced to the xml file on the laptop itself. even if all the media folders are on the external.
