How can I organize source audio files that are scattered?

0) Have you read the "READ ME FIRST" thread in its entirety AND TRIED THE SOLUTIONS THERE before posting: Yes, I swear it!

1) Operating System: OSX 10.9.4

2) OS Type: 32bit

3) rekordbox version: 3

5) Hard drive / Flash drive / SD card file system: HDD Mac Filesystem

8) Is rekordbox crashing at all: No

8b) If not crashing, are there any error messages: No

12) Provide as much detail of the issue here:

Okay, my problem is pretty simple. I have over the last year imported songs to Rekordbox from different locations: iTunes, Download folder, etc. I am now looking to organize all of those audio files to one folder (and subfolders, possibly). When you select the Export Library function, it asks if I want to export the files as well, and I say yes. So there is a file called rekordbox_bak, where all my music is stored. I would like to use that folder and the files therein for the source audio files, but that doesn't seem to be possible. How can I make this happen? I am worried that I will accidentally delete the wrong folder one time and lose some of my music.

Ugh ... music management is an enormous pain and unfortunately, not easy... BUT there is one way you might consolidate everything into folders slightly easier than manually, it's a bit sneaky, so see if you can follow along. ;)

First, grab a copy of Serato DJ. You won't be using it to DJ, but it has a cool feature to make this whole thing easy.

Next, dump all your music into it. You could grab your entire iTunes folder, Music folder, external hard drive, whatever - just drag and drop everything into Serato.

If you want to separate your music into ANY kind of structure, this is the time to do it. Make crates based on any criteria you want to use to divide the music (whether it be by year, genre, BPM, etc).

Fourth, decide where all your music files will live when you're done. Is it a new external hard drive? Go to that new home and make folders to match the crates you've just created in Serato.

Finally, within Serato, select all the tracks (CTRL+A on PC or Command+A on Mac) and drag and drop that list into the new folders. This will make a copy of all that music from that list into the new location! Genius, right?

The actual FINAL step you can take to delete your tracks from your hard drive, regardless of where they live -- go to the "ALL..." part of your Serato library and select all tracks, then hold SHIFT and press delete. This will not just remove them from Serato, but delete them from the library.

If  you ever plan to use Serato again, simply drag those folders back into the Serato crates and presto.

Wow - thanks for the quick and detailed response! This seems like it would work for me, but I'm curious about how I can keep all my pioneer information when I put it into Serato, and then how I can recover all that information once it's been organized. Is it saved to the files themselves?

Unfortunately it sounds a bit like your concern is more to organize the files than maintain the cue points... Just trying to provide a simple option, the other way is a bit more labour intensive. ;)
