also, the use of control values for aftertouch and 127 for note-ons in place of note-on velocity values and polyphonic aftertouch makes little sense within the context of in most software packages / daws etc. it is certainly possible to translate these midi messages using supercollider, max, etc. and pass them on to a given daw as normal velocity / aftertouch values, which is what i will probably end up doing if i use the controller in this way, but this alienates a huge possible market.

Seguirddj-sp1 velocity mode as default? (possible feature request)
hello,
i just picked up a ddj-sp1 for use as a midi controller, and am very happy with it with one exception: i always want to use the pads as drum pads, never as on / off buttons. is there any way (by uploading custom xml file, perhaps?) to ensure that velocity mode is always on? or at least on as the default, so that i don't have to press shift-sampler on both "decks" (or hold the buttons down for a second) every time i connect the controller?
ideally, i'd love to be able to de-couple the other controls (hot cue / roll / slicer / sampler buttons, deck 3 / 4) from the "mode" of the pads, always leaving the pads in velocity mode & using the other buttons to generate note-on events only.
for use with anything other than pre-existing dj software packages, it would be incredibly helpful & just makes sense from a user standpoint. i'm using it with custom software in supercollider, but i could also see this benefitting users of ableton live, max/msp, and countless other platforms.
i think this simple tweak would open up a lot of possibilities for potential users. i can't think of any other midi pad controller that treats the pads as on / off buttons by default and requires user interaction to enable velocity sensitivity of the pads. it just wouldn't make sense.
if this is not possible with the current firmware, i could see this being a nice feature to add to future releases (in conjunction with a custom xml file if necessary). it could even be implemented without affecting users of the dj software you support: for example, if a user has turned on velocity mode in the utility settings, the pads could always send out control values that go to a destination that is unused by serato, such that users of serato etc. will not be impacted by this data, but others could use the controls as they see fit, no matter which mode is selected.
at any rate, thanks for considering this possibility and for making such a beautiful piece of gear.
