[CLOSED] CDJ-2000Nexus vs. CDJ-900Nexus

Ok so I want to make a purchase by the end of this year. I want to get the 2000Nexus because I want to be familiar with a player that I will be using during opening gigs for headliners as well as common tech riders at the specific gig types I have been booked at. If it's the standard that I will most likely use everywhere, that's the one I want to learn the ins and outs. However, I have always paid attention to the trends with Pioneer, and I can almost always guess when they are about to discontinue a player, similar to the DVJ-X1...or even the DJM-707 mixer. Whenever a new lower model with a heavy amount of features, the CDJ-900Nexus, comes out, and when the price drops significantly on the flagship model. I have this eerie feeling that the CDJ-900NXS is either going to takeover the flagship status of the 2000NXS, or Pioneer is getting ready to release a new CDJ.

My question is, from a Serato HID, Traktor HID, and a Rekordbox point of view. Is there a technical advantage to have a CDJ-2000Nexus over a CDJ-900Nexus? I am already aware about lack of hot cues (unless I'm wrong and the 900NXS can now do hot cues).

if you plan to use the 900nxs with traktor(or serato I guess), you can map the hot cues to the beat slicer buttons.

There is a huge advantage of the CDJ-2000Nexus over the CDJ-900Nexus with Serato DJ in that the 2000Nexus is supported and the 900Nexus is not. That's kind of a big deal. As in if you get the 900Nexus you can't use HID. Furthermore as far as Fabio's response goes you can't "map" anything on the native CDJ's with Serato. Traktor pretty much supports anything (which is one of the largest reasons people use it IMO) so no problems there and the same goes with Rekordbox. In terms of direct comparison I would say the 900Nexus is simply a 900 with a SYNC button & a color screen. The on-air lights, The touchstrip, the platter tension adjustment, the SD card, the hot cues & more are actually pretty useful features that are not on this player. The Hot cues in particular are a deal breaker and I fully believe Pioneer purposely did not put them there as they are such key features. Still for such a cheap price they are not all that bad. Just keep in mind until Serato adds them to the supported player list for SDJ they are pretty much useless as you'll have to use them in the same manner you would a Numark or Denon player which is DVS.

since I used only traktor, serato was put in brackets with a guess.. and it depends on how do you dj.. to me hotcues were not a deal breaker as I dont use them. and for what I read(excuse my ignorance here if i'm wrong) you still need an audio card to use serato with cdjs... that should be, if true, a real deal breaker.. buy the most expensive gear on the planet to use it just as a jog and sum buttons? anyway, if the plan is to use hotcues, with a cheap denon hc1000s (stunning built piece of gear), you can ad them both to serato and traktor, I personally used it on traktor and the map is perfect, with all led working too.. really nice! :)

In regards to using the gear with traktor like I said they don't really regulate much so it's fair game. With the hc-1000s there are obviously limitations with both software a as well. With ssl it was a very good solution but with sdj's new capabilities it just does not cover it. There are also quite a few options aside from the ssl boxes (sl2-4) as in the 900srt, rane 64 (both of which I have and love) as well as all the sdj controllers that support it etc. if I didn't have the money sure the cdjs-900nexus would be a very attractive purchase but there is no doubt the cdj-2000 nexus is the better player IF u have the money.

It may seem like a small factor but the tilted screen alone on the 2000 is a big factor for me.

Yeah all the differences seem to be small but when added together I guess it becomes rather large. Just thinking of my old 900's seems like a few steps past a downgrade. I am now at the point where I am ready to add two more CDJ's to my setup and after being spoiled with the 2000Nexus's I would never be able to go to a 900 although this by no means makes them poor players. They just aren't 2000's obviously. The 900Nexus's may do well by appealing to a different market and they seem to be great competition for Denon due to price point but by definition could not gain flagship status. The second part the OP (Pri) brings up to me is a very real concern/feeling as Pioneer's product release scheduling seems almost reckless at times LOL. This is a very large concern I have this very minute and it is keeping me from making ANY purchase. I bought the DDJ-SX and a year later the SZ is coming out....................... they got me on that one. I purchase the DJM-900Nexus and a year later the SRT came out.......................... they got me on that too!! My CDJ-2000-Nexus's have had a decent run so far but I believe we are approaching the time at which we should be expecting............... something. My guess is we will be seeing a new player for Serato DJ which would be like the DDJ-SX divided into three. The players making it and the mixer section being thrown away for the SRT.  (basically place the SRT in the mixer section of the SZ and you will get the point. Two things are obvious here. Serato DJ is on a serious roll and they are taking Pioneer with them. I firmly believe this was the smartest decision they could have made. Rane & Pioneer are the premier hardware developers OF DJ gear (obviously I am talking about the DJ community at large as there are small scale manufacturers that are superior in some ways) and having them both releasing piece after piece of Serato dedicated hardware is pretty much like Christmas over there. I do use Traktor & Rekordbox as well but it seems there is not much going on over at those camps. The last native ................... anything for Traktor was the S4 I believe.

All I can say is keep on keepin' on!!!!

Totally feel you on that one Dave. This is my speculation. Things I almost expect from Pioneer is one, a new CDJ-like single tabletop deck, with no CD drive and his Serato DJ ready. And maybe a possible Traktor equivalent. I do hope to See a DDJ-TX and DDJ-TR soon. Unless of course Pioneer has a deal with NI not to compete head on against NI with certain machines. For example, the DJM-T1 for it's price has a the flaw only coming with Traktor Scratch Duo as opposed to the Pro ready Z2.
