ReKordbox datafile export to external device

Hi

Have followed the link regarding exporting rekordbox 3 datafile to an external hard drive so i can now use rekordbox on my 2nd laptop.

When i open rekordbox on my 2nd laptop & select my external drive in 'data management - Select a drive' it loads all the data files as should. All my tracks, playlists etc now show on my 2nd laptop. When i click any track within the collection or my playlists i get a yellow exclamation sign and a message stating the track is not there and to relocate.

Before i did this process i presumed all i would need to do was ensure the file containing my music files on my 1st laptop should also be copied to the external HD along with the datafile & they would work in conjunction with each other from my external HD.

I also copied this music file to my second laptop (albeit not in exatcly the same location, username etc) mainly as a backup of all my tunes. I read on Pulses instructions that usernames, etc should not be an issue when following this process https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/articles/205021549-Moving-Your-Rekordbox-Database-to-External.
Out of interest i plugged the HD into my first laptop again & it picks the tunes up fine even with the datafile on the HD, so my conclusion would be i also need to have my music file in exactly the same file name/location etc on my second laptop. Am i correct? If not why is it my tracks cannot be found/played & only the track info, artwork etc (datafile) is being accessed on my 2nd laptop?

If & when this works, i am now moving the datafile to my external HD. Obviously if this goes down i need a backup of the datafile. Where can i access this file on my laptop before i move to my hard drive so a backup can be made.

Final question! When importing new tracks to rekordbox from tunes added to my music file on any source will i need to ensure the track is saved to all 3 sources (in same folder) & the datafile is again backed up in case the HD goes down. Obviously then making my own copy of this datafile on my laptops.

Hopefully somebody can help me out as getting blue screen errors on my first laptop so need to get this sorted before it bites the dust ;)

SOLVED problem 1! I can now play all tracks with datafile on external HD running on laptop 2. Managed to change user account name in regedit so my 'music file' on C: is the same name on both laptops and all works fine.

Regarding my other questions i would still like to backup this datafile on both laptops in case the external HD goes down. How is this done? I presume whenever i add new tracks to my rekordbox collection the datafile in my external hard drive backs up automatically. I just need to ensure the original tracks i uploaded are on both laptops in same file location for the datafile to read them whenever i plug the external hard drive in. Then obviously make backups of the datafile also, in case of external HD failure.

One other thing after reading pulses comments as below:

pick one database and make that your "primary." It should also be noted that you CAN maintain multiple databases (one internal and any number of external), and you have the ability to switch between them at any time simply by visiting the Advanced Preferences and selecting a different drive from the drop-down (5)

Obviously once the datafile is moved from C: to an external hard drive how can i then use 'primary' or create any number of external (sort of going back to my question regarding backing up datafile).

Hopefully somebody can explain the finer workings

SOLVED! After a lot of reading, thinking and actually playing about with various things i have now answered all my questions & problems. Just the small issue of having to relocate 1300 tracks (not the full 10000+ though thank god)! Would be nice if the engineers could allow this function to also check subdirectories. I know this has already been asked though so hopefully on a future update.

Thanks Pioneer
