Random Emergency Loop

Hi,

I recently bought 3 XDJ 1000's. I absolutely love them and the Rekordbox combo but I have come across a problem where some tracks won't play properly and go into emergency loop mode and other tracks take ages to load, in comparison to others.

A couple of tracks go into emergency loop mode constantly whether all three decks are linked and running on one USB stick or individual USB sticks in each deck.

I'm running the latest firmware and version of Rekordbox.

I have tried 3 different USB sticks all re-formatted to Mac, incase that was the issue:

Kingston 2.0 8GB
Sandisk 2.0 32GB
Kingston Mini 2.0 32GB

I see that someone has had the same issue as me for the XDJ-RX and there was an update for it that fixed it.

https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/communities/public/questions/203113769-XDJ-RX-randomly-going-to-emergency-loop-and-forcing-USB-reload-when-loading-song-

Will there be a similar update for the XDJ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jack Wakeman

To anyone still following this and still experiencing this issue, our engineers have asked the following:

  • Please provide us with all the PIONEER FOLDER and Contents FOLDER of the drive where the issue occurred.
  • Let us know which category or Playlist the tracks loaded from when the issue occurred.
  • Does same issue occurred when using USB devices other than those mentioned?

Can you please tell how to provide these Folders?

And which Folders do you Need? The Folder where my Master Database is located is about 2GB large.
Do you also need the Folders located in C:\Programfiles?
Any Folders hidden in AppData?

I've got the same problem during a live set this weekend,  kinda uncool i had to resart the whole damn set,

I used a Sandisk 32 GB usb 3.0 stick format fat32

I was playing from a playlist and the player that froze was the player with the usb stick in it.

Player 2 that was stil playing music from the usb. While player 1 was giving a high pitched noise over the headphone's

U tried another usb stick in player 2 while this was happening, i hoped that player one could pick this up so i could play via link.

I was able to see the playlists from player 2 on player 1 and even to select track but they wouldnt load.

So the only option was to select a track on the usb in player 2 on player 2 which was playing a track from player 1 usb and start it, so it sounded like a messed up mix.

@Tim > I'm going to guess that SanDisk USB drive you were using was the culprit, because I'm also guessing it wasn't an Extreme Pro model.

@HardStyle > ONLY the folders from your EXPORT device; the PIONEER folder and the CONTENTS folder. I understand these may be rather large, so please use a file sharing service (eg. Dropbox) and post the link.

I have 2 x XDJ-1000 (mk1)

I'm using a Sandisk 128Gb.

The Emergency looping happen sometimes randomly and its REALLY not professional when it happens..

So :

1. What's the source of the problem ?

2. If it's the USB key, which one is not making these emergency loop ? (It needs to be a 128gb)

3. How do I switch from a USB key to another. (I head that I can't just simply copy the folder from one to another, right ?).

@Francis > Not exactly a performance model - my recommendation is to try it with another USB drive with the same tracks (I understand you want a large capacity drive - it can be a smaller drive for testing to isolate whether it's the drive or your database / tracks), as more often than not, the reason for an emergency loop is the loss of data transmission.

Ok but this “loss of data transmission” is a problem that happen only with sandisk usb keys ?

If yes, is there a 128gb usb key that does not do this “emergency loop “ problem ?

Or is it a problem with XDJ-1000 (mk1) ?

It can happen with any USB drive, but there are occasionally some models which have conflicts (eg. the Corsair Survivor series).

So it's a problem that only happen with the XDJ-1000 (mk1) ?

Because nobody mention XDJ-1000 (mk2) here.

There was an issue where a firmware update was released to address for the MK2 units, but MK1 didn't have the same problem.

As previously posted, these errors are more attributed with the source (the USB drive) as you wouldn't have the same experience with an ethernet source.

What seems to be clear now is that the XDJ-1000 (mk1) are defective since "emergency looping" can happen with any USB drive.

More, that problem doesn't happen with Mk2 !

There must be some memory issues as it happen more often if tracks are played from a very large playlist or from “all tracks” than from smaller one. And it always happens on the player which has usb in it. The other one can access the same usb from ethernet without problems, so u cant say that the usb sticks dont work correctly. And even if they do have some problems (i very doubt) there should be a workaround to recover from a emergency loop without restarting the unit, if other player can access usb stick, the player which contains a stick should be able to reload a track and recover from autoloop automaticaly.

Ok so if the problem are the USB drives, did Pioneer make tests (since the first post in november 2015) to know which USB key is working and which one is not ?

Which one should we buy in order not to crash our dj set ? From which company do I need to buy a 128gb USB drive ?

@Francis > There are simply too many on the market to test them all.

Personally, I use the SanDisk Extreme Pro or Corsair Flash Voyager GTX USB drives as both of them have SSD controller chipsets to manage the memory for amazing read/write performance. They are certainly more pricey, but that cost is well worth not waiting around to export music to the device. I have never had problems using either of these drives in any Pioneer DJ unit, both of them with over 10,000 songs.

If you're going to that price point, you may also want to consider the Glyph ATOM, and the Samsung T3, two reasonably small but ridiculously fast mSATA-based SSD drives.

Currently I'm uploading the "PIONEER" Folders from my harddisk and my USB drive...

Should I provide link in here?

Hey Pulse,
I've sent you the Mail right after your last post...haven't heard anything since now.

Can you please send Feedback?

Same issue with XDJ-1000, latest firmware. It randomly happens on both decks.

@Dazzer > If it still occurs with the latest firmware, check your ethernet cable (if it happens while linked), or try with a different make / model USB drive.

Did it all and still...

It's not the cable/usb drive problem, there are so many messages and videos from people all over the world with this issue and no solution from Pioneer!

Do you plan to improve USB stability? Because right now it really sucks :(

Or add some сheck function to Rekordbox so it will show a warning message when Pioneer hardware does not like a usb drive

@Dazzer > The unit itself doesn't check the drive, it just expects the drive to meet the standards as set out by the USB-IF. If you're using a low-quality drive (and there are literally THOUSANDS of different garbage-quality models out there), it's the drive which can't deliver the data output as expected, not an inability of the XDJ to read from the USB device.

Think of it as you talking to someone on a cellphone and they have a bad connection when your signal is fine. You can only hear every third word, yet you look at your phone and see that you have full-bars.

The issue in almost every case I have encountered has come down to the USB drive being the culprit. In some cases it was a bad source file, or bad ethernet cable, and in the rarest circumstances, a problem with the player itself.

This also happens with the MK2!!!! I have 2 XDJ1000 MK2 and it happened already 3 times, with different USB sticks!!! LAN cables were changed as well, the issue remains. This is my 3th setup of Pioneer in 2 years and I'm really getting disappointed by the quality of this gear ...

As bad as it sounds I had this on an xdj rx got rid of that with no resolution to the problem, I had this with a pair of xdj-1000, bought second hand, tried formatting sticks with hp formatter Tool, no joy!! Replaced the USB port on both players cost me £15 each and 1 hour of my time! I can safely say that solved my issue so I assume the players USB ports either worn or dirt inside but in my case this worked

How the mode should be activated
 emergency loop?
I have never seen it on my XDJ-RX2

Thank you...

Emergency Loop would be activated if you removed your USB drive or if it lost connection. It's not something you manually activate.
