Record a mix from CDJ

Hello, I'm trying to record from my CDJ but I am having no luck.

CDJ-900 (x2) and DJM-250

So this is what is happening

Works fine, but can't record
CDJ connect to MIXER connects to SUBWOOFER connects to SPEAKERS

Works fine, but can't record but can control traktor (this is set to external mode on the output routings)
CDJ connect to MIXER connect to SUBWOOFER connects to SPEAKERS
CDJ also connect to COMPUTER via USB

So how can I record my mix? The reason why it doesn't work is because the output mode on traktor is set to external, and the recorder is set to internal. If I try to change the recorder to external there are five outputs to click for the input mode. The problem is there is no input options to select as it says 'not connected'

If you're using Traktor, you'll need to either change to internal mode so the mixing is done in the software and thus can record, or if you want to use an external mixer, run one of the outputs from the mixer to an audio line input on your computer and record that source.

Im having the same problem. I can record when I put it on internal. Only then both my cdj's outputs go to one channel. I can't select multiple output channels...

So that means that both songs from the cdj's will play over the same output channel lets say channel 1. Instead of CDJ one playing from channel one and cdj 2 playing from channel 2. Which prevents me from mixing the songs.

Any ideas?

p.s. I use cdj 850's, xone 96 and traktor.

@Tobias > You probably need to change your audio configuration to EXTERNAL mixer configuration.

Okay but when I change it to External. The "record" button goes inactive. I.e. it doesnt let me click record when I put my audio configuration to external in performance mode.

Any idea what kind of settings I should use when I put it in External mode?

As far as I can see it doesnt find an input record when I put it in External mode. Probably that is the reason why the record button goes inactive and I can't record. Because it cannot see the input.

Yep, that's expected - you're mixing the audio with the Xone96, you would need to get that mixed audio back into the computer. You could simply use the audio interface of the 96 instead, that way you could select one of its inputs as your recording source.

And what do you mean by using the audio interface of the 96? Like connect it via USB and then select one of the channels? Because I need to record both channel 2 & 3 (current channels im using in the setup)

Thx for all the help!

Are you trying to record independent channels so you can mix them down later, or are you wanting to record what you're mixing as the master output?

By assigning the mixer as the audio device, you would assign each deck within the software to a different channel on the mixer, the CDJs still act as controllers, the mixer does the audio mixing, then rekordbox records the return audio from the mixer, same as you'd hear from the master output.

Okay.

Yes I want to record the master output. (not individual channels)

So I should assign the Xone96 as the audio device, put it on external mode.
And then Assign the decks to the channels and then I should be good to go and record?

Yep - and you may need to check which channel of your 96 is configured to bring the recording back into the computer and then select that as the recording source in rekordbox.

OP here.

I eventually solved this issue, it's been years so I can't remember the exact setup I went through.

Check the image on this link https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/203940063/comments/208312593

If I recall correctly this is the setup that I used to record, however, I gave up on recording with traktor/rekordbox and instead used audacity. Within audacity / windows volume settings, I messed around with the inputs / outputs and eventually got it to work.

Hey! So I tried again... without succes (yet)

Setup 1:

Audio device: Pioneer XDJCDJ ASIO
Mixer: External

Problem: Does not let me select an input record so cannot record.

Output deck 1: CDJ 1
Output deck 2: CDJ 2
Setup 2:

Audio device: Pioneer XDJCDJ ASIO
Mixer: Internal

Input record: Master OUT

Problem: Output channels arent split to 2. So the music from the CDJ's will be played over 2 channels simultaneouosly.

Setup 3: ( The one you recommended? )

Audio device: Xone 96 Asio driver.
Mixer: External

I can get audio to play from channels 1 and 2 so I can mix.
Problem: But rekordbox wont let me select "input record"
It does show the input channels and output channels.

Setup 4:

Audio device: Xone 96 Asio driver.
Mixer: Internal

Input record: Master Out.
So input seems to work well here.
Problem: Only the output channels are now weird.
Whenever playing a song it plays through multiple channels.

Any ideas of what im doing wrong?

CDJ's are connected via USB and working okay.

Xone is connected via 1 usb and working well. However it has 2 usb ports. Do i need to connect both of them or would one suffice? (I figured one would be enough)

Hope to hear from you again!

Thx
