Rekordbox DJ / External Mixing / CDJ Output

Hey Guys,

I'm wondering if you can use the 2 x CDJ's as Controllers for Rekordbox DJ and as Audio Output. So i won't need an audio interface.

Setup would be:
Laptop with Rekordbox DJ
connected via USB to two CDJ's
these CDJ's are connected with the mixer
And I use external mixing.

Is this possible?

Also did anyone find a solution for external usb drives ? I want to setup a Laptop connected to 2 CDJ's in a Club and i want that DJ's only have to Plug in their USB drives with RB Files and play from them.

Thanks a lot!

Best,
Simon

The aggregator tool would only be necessary when you are using mac OS X.

The aggregator tool is nothing more than a small piece of software that creates a virtual device that aggregates all the audio outputs of several physical devices in 1 new, virtual device: "Pioneer CDJ/XDJ".

So for example:
• Pioneer CDJ-2000 (connected USB 1) has 2 output channels: Front left & Front right
• Pioneer CDJ-2000 (connected USB 2) has 2 output channels: Front left & Front right

When creating an aggregated device you will have:
• Pioneer CDJ/XDJ (virtual device - no actual physical device) with 4 output channels: Front left, Front right, Front left, Front Right

The reason that this is necessary in OS X environment is because OS X can't output audio to more than 1 audio device at the same time.  You can only select 1 device simultaneously as output device.  The aggregator tool creates a virtual device that is manageable by OS X.  You select this 1 virtual device, who will output to multiple physical devices.

It's important to understand that:

• The aggregated device uses unique USB port assignments.  This means, if the devices were connected to USB port 1 and 2 and the next time you connect them to USB port 2 and USB port 3, you will need to create the aggregated device again.

• the usage of Thunderbolt to USB converters are great for general USB devices like mouses, keyboards, HDD's etc.  But for the aggregator tool it can be another non-reliable part in the chain.

Yes its possible - its a core functionality of the Rekordbox. Just use the CDJ aggregator application (so a "dummy" audio output having each cdj as one output is created), set the output from the Rekordbox to use the aggregated device and you are good to go.

I know this is a really old thread but I have a quick question that is related to what Simon asked above.  Is the audio output from the CDJ-2000NXS2's sent on the digital output when configured as an aggregated audio interface with Rekordbox DJ or is it just sent on the analog RCA jacks?

I haven't checked this again recently to verify 100%, but if I recall, the audio output is sent over both analog and digital outs when using the CDJ as USB audio device (regardless of whether it's an individual device or part of an aggregate).

Ok cool.  What about controlling multiple decks per CDJ similar to how the 4 deck Rekordbox controllers work and is it possible to route more than one deck through the output of each CDJ?  For example, could I output Decks 1 & 3 through the output of CDJ #1 and Decks 2 & 4 through CDJ #2?  From what I've read it looks like control of more than one deck per CDJ isn't possible but outputting the audio of more than one Rekordbox DJ deck per CDJ might be.
