DDJ SX2 w/SERATO BIZARRE ISSUE - ONENOTE WINDOWS 10

When I use serato as a player, everything is great.
As soon as I plug in the sx2, my laptop repeatedly launches OneNote. Over and over. Then my trackpad freezes.
Even more bizarre, after maybe 30 minutes, it all goes back to normal.
Furthermore, I have no strange records in my windows logs.

Any help here? I tried uninstalling onenote, but it's inherent to windows 10.

This is the first I've ever heard of that happening.

Fortunately (or unfortunately?) OneNote is not a built-in Windows 10 application, it's part of the Microsoft Office package. You could remove it, but that doesn't tell us why the application is being launched over and over.

Could you download and install MIDI-OX to see if maybe there's some weird MIDI signal being sent to the computer which is somehow being interpreted to launch a program?

Hi there. Actually onenote is built in and it can not be uninstalled. I've tried.
I'll try midi-ox. Is this something I need to run when the controller is connected?

I guess every time I've installed Windows 10, I've customized the package so as not to include those extra/unnecessary applications. I really do prefer a streamlined operating system free of bloatware. You can find instructions here on removing OneNote if you wish.

MIDI-OX is a MIDI monitoring program, noting more, it would at least tell us if the unit is sending signal upon device connection.

Typically it's only USB drives which trigger AutoPlay, or an application (such as a photo transfer manager) listening for a specific device, but for OneNote to launch not only once but repeatedly tells me there's something wrong, and chances are it's with Windows, not the SX2. Have you tried fully removing the SX2 drivers and rebooting / reinstalling?

This system system with Windows 10. The first two nights I used it, there are no problems. I used Adobe cs6 on the day that the problem started, so after I finish this scan that I'm running, I plan on uninstalling Adobe, just to see what happens.
I tried uninstalling onenote, like 4 times. It manages to keep popping up lol.. There are all sorts of forums that discuss JUST THAT.. Anyway, ugh.

Ok, are you ready for the latest NEWEST development?

I used system restore to go back to the date that i KNEW serato dj was working.

Now the issue has gone away, completely.

I do have to reinstall some software, but cross your fingers that it doesn't come back.

ugh. bad news.. it came back. now i've downloaded and installed midi-ox.

i successfully uninstalled onenote. but last night, while it didn't launch any applications, it DID freeze my trackpad. i was able to use my keyboard, and the pioneer ddj sx2.

anyway, tell me what to do now that i have midi ox on my laptop and i will report back.

OK, so i used sfc. then i continued on to use DISM.

I ended up wiping the computer and completing a clean install of windows 10.

the problem arose, again. but this time i looked closer at the event logs, and the specific events associated with the ddj sx2. for whatever reason, the driver would not install correctly.

i want to repeat... that this issue does not happen at any other time. it ONLY happens when i am connected to the ddj sx2.

i've tried running  the installer in backward compatibility mode. it didn't work. it still launches onenote. what i have NOT tried is running serato DJ in backward compatibility mode.. what do you think? or do you have ANY other suggestions? i use this equipment EVERY night... so it's absolutely exhausting to not have a solution.

So I bought a Denon controller, for trouble shooting purposes. Same issue happened.
Then I took a closer look at my event logs... There was an issue with onenote nor being able to "register"? I was unsure if that meant online or with the registry... I dug deeper.

I've found a solution so basic... That I need to post this for anyone having any problem on windows... MSCONFIG. Look at the services tab, check the box that removes all Microsoft services from the list. Then deactivate the remaining services. RESTART.

BINGO. I was able to register onenote. And last night was the first night I had with NO COMPLICATIONS!

I've since gone back to msconfig to load the services I know to be safe... And I've researched some of the services I did not know (but that's expert level) to see which ones are safe.

Anyway, I really appreciate your time. Keep my solution in mind when talking to other windows users 😀

Solution: OneNote = problem. Got it. ;)

Glad you were able to troubleshoot it, sorry it took you purchasing a Denon unit to figure it out. lol

Cheers!
