I am running Rekordbox on my mac. I have a thumb drive with my master database on that I would like to move to a new external hard drive. How is this done??? I've read through these forums and watched videos on youtube but have never figured it out. I've had to completely re cue and organize my library multiple times now and it's getting very frustrating!!! Why does this have to be so complicated???? Please break this down to the most simple steps possible!!!

what is needed is for Rekordbox to be able to move music files and folders containing folders from within Rekordbox.so cue points and database info follow the moving of files. This is something I muss too.
I guess it'll always be faster moving your files manually unless the implement that multi-threaded.
Using a software like rich copy, a.e., not using windows cut/copy and paste (one would thing windows should be able to cope with this by now)
So, for now, I guess copying your music folder structure by hand (using multi-threaded copy software) and then move the DB and use the relocate files.
It'll take quite a while still depending on your usb (usb3 preferred ofc) and size
I actually was able to successfully transfer from my tumb drive to my new external with all my ratings, cue points, and colors intact fairly easy and with little work. How it worked??? I'm not a 100% sure but it did. I will try to explain what I did:
1. Back up your library and all song data. (this is very important so you don't lose all the countless hours of tagging and organizing your music if it doesn't work for you)
2. I then dragged my "Platinum Notes" folder from my thumb drive onto my new hard drive. (all my music is run through Platinum notes and that folder doesn't have any sub folders)
3. Then I dragged the backup file of Rekordbox onto my hard drive (it wasn't the XML version or whatever, I'm pretty sure)
4. I then removed the thumb drive from my laptop and opened up rekordbox.
5. Rekordbox comes up with a notification stating that the master database was not found and asks if you'd like to open up the library in the default location. (you have to click yes otherwise it will just close rekordbox)
6. Once Rekordbox was up and running i went into "Preferences" , then the "Advanced" tab and down at the bottom under "database management" and selected my new external.
7. Now back in the library none of my music was able to be located so i went up to "File", then to "library" and then to "restore library" and selected the backup I put on the new external.
8. I restored the back up and the songs were still not being found. So I then went to the first song and manually located it. Then without me doing anything else it located all the rest of the songs in my library. (not really sure how i did it or why it did it. I think my songs were "highlighted" I'm pretty sure)
9. I then re analyzed all my music and all my cue points, ratings, and colors were with it!
I was shocked and confused how it worked honestly and wish I could explain my process better. But now I'm able to use my new hard drive with all my info on it without having to manually re set cue points, rating, and colors. All my playlists were there too.
Notes: My new hard drive was NOT labeled with the same name as my thumb drive. When you back up your Rekordbox library and it asks you if you'd like to back up "song data" make sure you say yes (it takes much longer but I think that was the trick). Also I did not drag and drop my music from my hard drive into rekordbox, I just restored my library from the back up I put onto my new hard drive.
I hope this works for anyone else that is having this problem. I know it was a fucking nightmare for me and Rekordbox deff needs to make this really fucking simple and easy to do! I run rekordbox on my Macbook Pro. Best of luck and thanks for your guys input.
