Rekordbox USB usage

Hi all,

I have a question which some of you might be able to answer (I hope).

My situation is as follows :

I have a mac with itunes, and my itunes library is on a network location (NAS).

I import some playlists of songs I selected into rekordbox (with sync in rekordbox).

Up till now, I just sync my rekordbox to an usb, plug it in on a couple of cdj 2000's or XDJ-RX, and good to go.

As you might have noticed, it's hard to do text searches on a cdj :).  My question is now, is there a way you can hook up a mac with rekordbox, and browse the usb's which are in the cdj's ? or... can I just use rekordbox while not connected to my network, plugin the usb into my mac and use pro dj link to load songs from rekordbox (usb) ?

Or is there any other solution ?

And no, i don't want rekordbox dj... :)

thank you !

Hi Pete

this is de design of rekordbox.
When you run rekordbox on a PC/Mac you can link to the CDJ/XDJ supporting DJ Pro Link. The CDJ/XDJ Need to be connected via LAN cable with a Hub/Switch or Router. The PC/Mac need to connect to the same Network either through LAN or WLAN.
Once rekordbox detect the Player it will give you a 'Link' button at the bottom.
After linking you can use the rekordbox library and push tracks to the CDJ/XDJ. If you plug in a rekordbox USB decive into the PC/Mac you can view that library as well.
You don't need rekordbox DJ for this Basic function.
Please refer to the rekordbox Manual for the Details.

Hope this helps.

Hi Frank,

thank you for your answer.  well, i remember trying it once, plugging in my usb while the itunes library (nas) was unavailable, and I remember that it started deleting files.  Not sure if this was on my usb or just in my library...

This is why I ask, I have alot of gigs recently, and I cannot afford losing alot of time rebuilding usb sticks or libraries...

thank you

So... yesterday did some tests.  I synced a spare usb, backed up my rekordbox database, and disconnected my mac from the network.  so far so good :)

Then I connected it to the cdj's, and fired up rekordbox (with no access to the tracks as the mac was not on the network), setup pro dj link with cdj's.  When I inserted my usb, and tried to browse it, i got a deletion window, that he was removing tracks from playlists.  Not sure if the playlists were on my usb or in my rekordbox db.  After closing them quickly by pressing cancel 50 times, I could browse my usb within rekordbox.

But then the next problem comes up, I could not load tracks from usb onto the cdj throug rekordbox, it seems it doesn't allow it ?

Any ideas someone ?

Thanks !

Pete,

I did some testing by myself and experiencing the same.
I got a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with a SD card hosting my entire library. When removing the SD Card it is like your scenario when you NAS isn't available.
When I plug in a USB device with exported playlists I can browse them but not pushing the tracks to the XDJs I got. It says the track is corrupted or not available. In addition it looks like playlists from the USB had been deleted. However I didn't got the deletion message.

I think what you Need to do is move your recordbox library to the USB stick. Having it on the USB device allows you to use it on several Computers the same way.
There are some threads about it in the Forum.

Hi Frank,

Thank you for your help.

So if I understand you well, I need to move the rekordbox database to te USB stick ? Not the iTunes library or mp3 files (except for the export from rekordbox itself)?

Not sure if that would change anything, currently my rekordbox database is located locally on my mac, so it is available everywhere.   But I will dig into it. :)

So, tried that, same issue...

I'm afraid the only way you can use rekordbox with pro dj link is when you have all mp3's (itunes library) locally or completely on a usb stick. :(

Or... any other ideas ? :)
