USB Connections CDJ 900 Nexus & Rekordbox Performance

Hi,

Im running a Macbook pro 2015 model with two USB 3.0 ports. I need 3 ports in total to run two decks and external hard drive of music but I only have two.

I have tried a usb hub to connect decks but this does not work (manual also suggests this).

Im sure there is a fix to this as a lot of people running Macs or laptops with not many ports probs have the same problem and need to get it up and running asap.

been running in link mode for years but now want to move to rekordbox performance with cdj 900 nexus connected to computer via usb.

Anyone who can help?

@Gaurav > You should use the CDJs via a hub and the hard drive can be connected directly. I know the manual suggests not using a hub, but this is an unfortunate necessity in such configurations.

If you have tried a hub and it didn't work, was it a USB3 or USB2 hub, and was it powered or unpowered?

Hi @pluse thanks for getting back in touch. I tried a cheap hub of Ebay which didn't work but then went to maplin and bought another one which did work, it hasn't got a seperate power pack so must power from computer.

The MacBook has 2 USB 3.0 ports so one is being used for hard drive and the other is for the USB hub. It is a USB 3.0 hub, I didn't know what USB ports the cdj has so I assume it's USB 2.0.

I eventually got it working with rekordbox but still suffering some latency on the scratch platter it seems to jump and loose the point where your scratching from. I reduced the buffer sample as per another forum comment, it made the response slightly better but I can't go less than 192 as it starts to pop slightly on playback.

I have just bought a DDJ-rx but would still want to use CDJs aswell for larger occasions.

Yes, the CDJ uses USB2 but you can always connect USB2 to a USB3 hub / port. Power isn't a big factor as the CDJs are powered themselves. Some cheap hubs almost require the power for devices to be detected!

The latency setting should be as low as you can set it before audio glitches occur, then bump it up a notch from there. This number will differ on every computer based on the hardware and other software running in the background.
