For now the solution to storing your library files in the root of your external SD card on Android 4.4 or later is one I do not advise for noobs. There's not a big risk but it's always handy if you at least know how to root your device. If you don't, don't even try! So much for warning.
I am NOT in anyway connected to Pioneer or Kuvo. I am just an end user of their products. So this solution is at your own risk. I hope Pioneer doesn't mind my placing this solution but if they do, this post can be removed.
Android changed the external SD permissions to MEDIA_STORAGE instead of the earlier used EXT_SDCARD. To set your permissions right do the following:
1. Backup File - packages.xml in /data/system folder
2. Open File - in QuickEdit app (I moved it to my PC to edit in Notepad++)
3. Search - for app vendor name (pioneer)
4. Paste - <item name="android.permission.WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE" granted="true" flags="0" /> in/after <perms> tag
5. Save - by pressing back twice and confirming Yes(Grant Root permission if asks)
6 Reboot - ur done.
Maybe the Rekordbox developers can add this rule to the .APK installer in order to be more flexible with external SD / Sync.
After this action you can set the RB library (Settings -> library location, scroll text up) to: /storage/[storagecard-name]/
I now sync the SD as external device on my PC (copy from a USB stick) and have colored waveforms in that way. In the pioneer folder I only copy the Database files NOT the settings. It's easier if you just sync through wifi.
I only sync back via wifi so my 'edits' are moved back to my main storage.
Good luck. It took me about two weeks to reverse engineer this solution into my work'flow(?)'.

Thanks Mark for letting it stay here. I hope I was clear at stating the same. I just meant to share. I'm not a mac user so I'm used to sharing solutions. I also hope you'll pass this through to your 'engineers' (I hope they are developers). It seems quite easy to adjust the .apk to this need. And they can check if it really solves the problem of not being able to add your tracks to the external SD card. I think many of my fellow RB users would like to be able to do it that way.
I repeat to the reader: use this at your own risk, I am not in anyway related to Pioneer!
