DDJ-SX ASIO doens't work

I recently bought me a DDJ-SX and was very excited to use it for the first time. I installed the ASIO driver, as usual for PCs, installed Serato DJ and connected the controller. Everything fine so far, Serato recognised the co controller and i can everything with it, except there is no sound coming from my master-output. Serato shows that there should be a master-out. I turned every knob to maximum (master, trim, fader and everything in serato) but still no sound. I thought it was a problem with serato so i switched to Trator. Installed tge mapping and switched the mode on my SX. In traktor i can choose from two audio devices: DDJ-SX wasapi shared mode which works perfectly but with this horrible latency and DDJ-SX ASIO which works for all the controls but still has no audio. I'm already using traktor in 32bit mode.

What am I doing wrong? I'm desperately trying to get it working properly.

Hi,

if you want a good experience with the SX do not use the wasapi mode again for your favorit  live audio manipulation software.

Switch back the MIDI mode (.. so you should Run SERATO Dj ) to Normal.

next step - take a look at the Serato website, there you can find a lot of tips to Optimize your PC ore Mac to Work with seratodj and the DDJ as well.

https://support.serato.com/hc/en-us/categories/200176274-Troubleshooting-Optimization

If you use a Windows Operating System try to RUN LatencyMon to figure out that your Computer is Running without ANY interuptions (produced by drivers ore malware infections etc.)

http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon

Try to setup your DDJ-SX for SeratoDJ cause the Device was build for that.

good luck

Hey,

I'd like to have a good experience but at the moment I don't have a choice other than use the wasapi mode. So far I've tried almost everything: switching MIDI mode back and forth, using Serato or Traktor, using a different ASIO driver (asio4all) which had even worse latency than wasapi. Reinstalling the original driver for my SX didn't work, tried that a dozens of times.

I mentioned the wasapi mode just so you know my SX is working, also as a standalone mixer everything works properly. This thread is my last hope. It seems to be a known issue that pioneer drivers don't work with Traktor in 64bit mode, so I already switched to 32bit mode but still no sound with the ASIO driver. I tried to get help from other threads and they had similar problems to some extent but the solutions they mentioned didn't work for me.

OK I ran latencymon, it tells me that my PC is suitable and the latencys semm to be ok. Is there something I can monitor with this program, that might help me? Maybe in combination with the SX?

Ok,

Let latencymon work for about 10min. and watch for Red peaks.

I have a laptop *Dell Vostro i7 & 8gb ram / ssd 250gb* with windows 10 x64 installed and working well so I CAN use my DDJ SX with my Traktor Pro 2 but I preffer to use Serato in the first place.

did you checked the Serato help page?

Check your System Drivers for Updates, Set your Energy Profile to High Performance, Prevent all USB Ports from saving Energie.

what kind of laptop ? did you tried different usb ports? did you use a USB HUB?

...... never give up ^^

ok I let latencymon run for 15min and I had a lot of pagefaults. Most of them were caused by Firefox, because i was searching for a solution to my problem. But none of them were related to any sound drivers which was anticipated as I never had problems with drop outs or noises during dj sessions.

Well at home, where I want my sx to work at first, I don't use a laptop. My PC runs on:
i5 2550K

12GB ram

GTX 760

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCIe dedicated soundcard

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

and all drivers should be running on their latest versions as i rescently reinstalled windwos. I even updated my BIOS version.

I just tested it on my laptop and it didn't work as well :/

Am I missing something? All you need to do is: install the pioneer driver including the asio sound driver and run Serato, right? (in case of Traktor I imported the mapping)

your right, can you start the Pioneer ASIO Tool ? any Errors?!

PC Optimization Guide for Windows

Disable C-State Transition, Turbo Boost, Intel-Speedstep....

Note that not all computers have these settings.
If yours does, it is recommended that you disable them if possible.
These two settings can cause the processor to change speeds
depending on the computer’s activity.
This can cause errors or slow performance with Serato DJ.

You should consult the manufacturer of your computer or
your motherboard
to see if these settings are available
and learn how to disable them.

last 3 steps of the serato guide:

The following is a list of recommendations to get better performance out of your system.

  • Avoid connecting audio interfaces or controllers to USB or Firewire hubs where possible. You will experience an overall better experience when you plug directly into your computer.
  • Make sure all unnecessary programs are closed. They can tie up useful resources.
  • Turn off any software utilities that run in the background, such as Windows Messenger, calendars, anti-virus, firewalls and disk maintenance programs.
  • Disconnect any unused USB devices from your computer.

Note : Dell Vostro 4730
Intel i7 26xx
8GB ram
Samsung EVO 640

and i have to Deactivate the WiFi while playing :D
Serato and other Realtime Audio manipulation Programms eating your CPU Power so make 150% Sure your CPU is not RUNNING in Turbo Boost mode and all Energy Saving Features are Deactivated - Set a Fixed Value for the CPU Multipler. Any Kind of AUTO Settings at the Bios can possibly interrupt the Audio,

When you Install the Pioneer DDJ Driver -Windows Pops up a FALS driver signature Window, did that happen!?

ok at least something done right :D

yes i can start the ASIO tool without any problems, no errors, no crash.

well my CPU has more than enough capacitys left. Serato and Traktor themself run properly and flawless. If my CPU was on it's maximum capabilities I would've heard it and also seen it on the indicator, would I. So this can't be the reason. There are no enegy saving features active and my CPU gets the power it needs.

AHA! No that didn't happen. I was wondering why there wasn't a pop-up where I had to confirm the installation of a new audio device, which happened with my last controller (reloop). When I installed my reloop the instal wizard even told me to connect the controller at some point in the installation. All of this didn't happen, but I didn't question it, should have known better. Windows only showed a pop-up that it was installing the driver and that the SX was ready to use when i connected the controller.

ok that seems to be it. But how do i fix it?

I would start Uninstall the Pioneer SX Driver

Press the Windows Button + R - and Enter = Appwiz.cpl

After Finishing the uninstall go to Device Manager

Press the Windows Button + R - and Enter = devmgmt.msc
Navigate to the View tab an - *Check* - Show hidden devices

Just to make sure that NO drivers left search for Pioneer Device in
Audio
USB Hub
USB Devices

If there is a Greyed Device -> *Right mouse click* -> Uninstall driver (Check that windows should all delete, so nothing has left)

If thats done -> Reboot your machine.

Now go to where your PioneerDDJ_SX_Driver_Setup.exe is locatet -> *Right klick* -> Run as Administrator ..... and follow the Setup Instructions.
*** IF here comes a Driver Signature message *** now allow the Installation of the driver.

*** IF Not - all should be ok.

Plug in your SX and Power On
Start the Pioneer ASIO Tool *is it Working?* ok so thats done!

Now go to the Windows Sound Panel.
Press the Windows Button + R and enter = mmsys.cpl
Make sure the Pioneer Audio Output device is set as Default.

No Start Traktor and Check in Configuration Pane  -> Audio  Setup and  make sure the SX is working in ASIO Mode.

OK I've done everything as you mentioned but still the same problem.

I deinstalled all drivers, rebooted my pc and reinstalled the driver. There was still so notification from windows that a new audio device is installed. Only when I pluggend in the sx windows started to auto install a driver. So it was just the same procedure as every time. Traktor then automatically used the ASIO driver but there was no sound at all (checked all faders and knobs). I changed the audio device to wasapi mode - sound ... back so asio - no sound. But the pioneer sound panel works properly. Changing latencies and bitrates don't end up in crashes or errors after confirming.

I added a screenshot of the installation details below. It's weird that there was no sound driver installed in the first place. Just the ASIO setting utility and everything that is needed for this program. Is that right?? It dosn't seem to be for me. The installation also took next to no time at all. That was very different when I installed my reloop. During the instal process you had to connect the device and just then it would give you multiple notifications that new audio devices were added to windows. All in all it's just weird to me.

hi, the file : Pioneer_DDJ_SX_ASIO.dll is the driver.

In Traktor Configuration Pane -> Audio
you can set the ASIO device and the built in. does it set corretly?

In Traktor is it helpfull to completly remove the configuration for the SX in Controler Config Pane.
Make sure you Close the Config Pane bevor you Import the Pioneer_xx.TSI

Did you use the Pioneer *.tsi for Traktor ?

Hey,
Ok at least it does install correctly.

Yes I can set it up as built in without any problems and it was also set-up like this automatically.

Ok I'll try this again just to be sure but as far as i can tell the mapping should be correct.

The config pane was closed when i imported the tsi and i also ticked the checkbox "audio device settings" as recommended in the manual. Yes i use the original mapping file for traktor win by pioneer.

Hey,

how's it going? Any idea what i can try, because i'm still not able to find any solution.

Is there any possibility to ask someone from pioneer, because we don't seem to solve my problem.

My recommendations:

1) Ensure your operating system is fully updated with all available patches and drivers, even the graphics drivers which may not update completely with the Windows Update:

NVIDIA
Intel
AMD / ATI

2) Run the system uninstaller to remove the SX drivers. Make sure the SX is unplugged. Reboot.

3) Go download the latest (64bit) drivers which were released Sept. 6th. Run Traktor in 64bit mode. Don't connect the SX; reboot.

4) Make sure Traktor is up-to-date.

5) Never use the WASAPI driver, it's installed by Windows and totally useless for DJing.

Report back on your findings.
