Hi Alex.

Don't think so. And I believe it would never happen because:

1. There are different encryption Technologies out there. I doubt rekordbox will Support multiple. Therefore rekordbox would Need to have their own.
2. Potential license fees
3. Don't think the CDJ / XDJ will have the power for real time decryption and even have the necessary CPU for it.
4. The Audio processing is time critical. Additional encryption might make it not possible anymore to have real time hot cues or something else without different architecture of CDJ / XDJ.
5. No user demand - As a DJ who want to plug the USB into any CDJ / XDJ out in the Clubs, I wouldn't go down that route and depend on the question does the curren Hardware Support encryption yes or no.
6. And simply - what is the risk not having the Music encrypted. I don't feel a big risk of loss when the USB with Music is stolen. It is not nice - but what is your risk?

Frank thanks for you answer. I am mobile DJ for 22 years, with expirience in Greek and English music and not to on with house, rnb, or pop music. I done a lot of research and spend a lot of time to organize my music files and also edit songs through adobe audition. I don;t feel happy some one took my work.Thats all!. Hopefully it is a solution for my point. Waiting for an answer. But thanks for your time to write the above article...

A bit old post but I would also like to have an option to encrypt my HDD/USB.

The reason is that me as many other travelling djs have tens even hundreds of unreleased tracks form ourselves or our peers. So in the case of a lost HDD or USB if this goes in the wrong hands it's gonna leak on the internet. I suppose you know that no artist would like this to happen with his unrealeased music. I've lost already 1 USB and 1 HDD so I'm really looking for an option to secure that. Thank God they were not lost in a venue.

Would like to know what Pioneer thinks about this. Is it possible at all?

Sorry, the demand is low and unfortunately the current CDJs don't have the resources required to perform such a task in realtime.

IMHO I personally think the demand is quite high.... i would love this feature to be able to encrypt mp3 files with password protection because I personally remix many of the songs we play as a company which is quite unique to our clientele. I have multiple dj units with dj's that work for me and have in the past had dj's copying the music i have over many years, with lots of time and effort remixed, instantly copying it and starting their own business and becoming my direct opposition with music I remixed.

Well, since Pioneer does not want to help us keep our music safe, I found another solution - USB flash drive with a PIN code / fingerprint. I guess I am not allowed to post link to other companies products so you'll have to search it ;)

Agree, the demand is obviously high!

may be for the DJs with mainstream-collections it might not be an issue. There are too many DJs who put so much energy, time and money to prepare their music and playlists. Personally I have always paid for the music that I have and also all of the fallow DJs producing their own music are always stressed when they are carrying their life's work on the performance night. If you just think about it, who wouldn't be happy to protect their unique work with a single password!

Given the amount of requests for this, I'll disagree and say that the demand is low. Sorry! Please consider using a Samsung T7 drive with the built-in fingerprint reader if this is a concern.
