Xdj 1000 mk1 Firmware

Is it known if pioneer will support the Xdj 1000 mk1 with further updates (rgb waveform, more hotcues) like in the mk2 ? Or is the mk1 now end of life because mk2 was released ?

@Frank & Jason > Unfortunately there are a few things at play here...

1) These units are using DSPs, not CPUs. Their power and flexibility is not infinite, and as a result, sometimes features introduced to newer models can not be migrated back down to the older hardware.

2) Sales of new equipment would go out the window if we were able to perpetually provide new features and functions to old hardware. This is not an intentional limitation; see #1.

TL;DR: Sorry, these functions are 99.9% unlikely to appear on the XDJ-1000MK1, but bug fixes and general improvements will certainly be provided.

Can't speculate on specific updates, but it will be supported by Pioneer as needed.  I don't think you'll see RGB because of hardware limitations, but if it does come through we will announce it here!

I'm a happy XDJ1000 mk1 owner, and they have said in the past, that for the most part new features will not be added to the older decks. It makes sense with their business model, but it is a bummer that the older, and still fairly expensive decks will not gain anything new.  At least they have been rock solid on support, especially to make sure Serato still works on these which I have been happy about. It just doesnt feel like apple, where they update their older devices for years, and more like a yearly model of a car, which is constantly being replaced.

While Apple's iOS updates do apply to many older devices, they are still only updating one operating system.  Each Pioneer DJ product has different physical, technical, internal features and specifications that would make it almost impossible for each product to be updated every time a new feature is released.  Furthermore, Apple has stated publicly that the average maximum life expectancy of an iPhone is only 3 years.  When properly cared for and maintained, Pioneer DJ products can last upwards of 10 years.  Our product planning and engineering teams are working hard at looking to the future and how we can incorporate new features and technology into our new products, while still providing support and critical functionality updates to our older models.

Most of the features of the Mk2 can be handled with a software update to the MK1.  I understand you would like us to buy a new deck, but this is a very expensive piece of gear you are choosing not to support. I would even pay for the upgrade if it was offered. All of these features the Mk1 can do with software:

  • FLAC / ALAC support
  • higher detail / RGB waveform
  • new phase meter
  • needle countdown
  • "MATCHING" browse mode
  • track filter
  • 8 hot cues vs. 3

While I am owning 2 MK1 as well and would like to see some of the updates you mentioning coming to the MK1 I am not certain if this is only software. It may depend on the technical specs of the Hardware. ie CPU or internal Memory - not sure how big the differences of the Hardware is.

Phase Meter and needle Countdown might be doable, 8 hot cues (I would love) may depend on physical Memory. etc...

Actually I don't believe we will see these functionalities coming to the MK1 for a simple reason. There Need to be a difference beween MK1 and MK2 finally. Otherwise People not consider changing Hardware.

I was not changing to the MK2 because MK1 wasn't that old and the differences to MK2 weren't significant. I might consider a Change to a maybe future MK3 I have to compare to my MK1. The difference from MK1 to MK3 might be significant while the difference from MK2 to MK3 might not.

If Pioneer would give me lots of MK2 functions for my MK1, I may not even consider an MK3 as the difference wouldn't be significant again.

Another example: I am owning 2 Technics SL-1210MK2 turntables. I am owning them for 30 years. Why I am not considering buying new turntables? Because they still work like on day 1 and there are not much significant changes for turntables. A nighmare for the manufacturer from a Marketing perspective.

Again - I would love to see these changes coming for MK1. I would be positively surprised to see any of them as I don't think it will happen.
