DDJ RR midi issues

Hi there wondering if anyone can help. I have a Ddj rr and the efx uni1 the knobs no longer do anything and seem stuck on full. All the buttons work fine, just the efx 1 knobs are affected. I have tried a different usb cable and I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Rekordbox

My first recommendation would be to try resetting the unit back to its defaults. Open rekordbox, click the MIDI button at the top right, make sure the DDJ-RR is the selected device, then click the DEFAULT button at the top right. Close the window, and restart rekordbox.

I'd suggest grabbing a MIDI monitor and verifying that those knobs are still transmitting MIDI signal.

Hello, I unfortunately have this same issue.

4 months ago, the left FX section knobs-ONLY stopped functioning. The FX1-2 knob sometimes controlled all three at once, but it was completely erratic.

Yesterday, when I reconnected my DDJ-RR to Rekordbox, updated everything (firmware and software - and I use a mac, so no drivers), both sides were not working.

Sometimes there could be seen some movement of the indicators in the rekordbox software, but, ultimately, both FX are completely unusable. Even if I try to move the indicators directly on rekordbox, they all return to one position. Therefore I can't even use the FX from the software, let alone the controller.

This upsets me profoundly. It seems like it might be a hardware issue, but why?

Why months later the right side just stops functioning as well? I do not have warranty anymore, I purchased my controller in 2016 and have always used it at home, few times even, taking care of it very carefully. It never entered in contact with any liquids. I'm really sad.

This is issue is replicated in a youtube video I'm refferencing here as well:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqmiY0nrSec

This is such an expensive controller, something I just can't substitute. I'm still a student.

Also, I live in Brazil, technical support should be painful to obtain, if not outrageously expensive.

I tried monitoring the MIDI signal, and it seems like there are MIDI signals coming through the left FX all the time, even though no movement is being made.

I can't seem to make it recognize any other movements. Tried resetting MIDI mapping to default as well. No success.

How can I work around this? Even if it is actually a hardware problem (that I will probably have no way of resolving).

Is there a way to ignore this inputs and control these knobs from the keyboard?

I'm really sad about this. Even more that a few people have reported the same problem.

There is at least another forum post on this. (saying it is a hardware problem).

Any other way to troubleshoot? Opening the controller could help in any way? Dust of whatever that entered the shell? Is there a way to substitute the pots?

Please, help me. This is a feature I really like and want to use.

@Nicolas > If the knobs are sending MIDI signal all the time, even after updating the firmware, then it could be a hardware fault and will need to be serviced. Yes, the pots can be replaced, but nobody here is authorized to provide you with information or instructions on performing that repair. Please contact Pioneer DJ technical suppor in your region for additional information, or to arranged to have your RR serviced.

The only case in which I might think it's not the hardware is if it doesn't do that when connected to a different computer (not the same make / model) and using a different USB cable.

Hello, thanks for the response.

But still, please, I can't understand: if there are people out there having the same problem with no clear reason other than a manufacture fault, why do we customers need to PAY for the repair?

I'm honestly devastated by this. I had plans on never ever having to substitute this controller because of all its features (and price). Technical support in Brazil without any warranty could cost me as much as half the controller itself, if not more...

But really, isn't this some kind of common problem? In that case, shouldn't pioneer take responsibility for this faults?

Secondly, I still wanted to have an alternative to using the controller and the FX features without the knobs, maybe using the keyboard from my notebook.

Is there a way I can do this? Say, by mapping letter E & D, R & F, T & G for the ups and downs of the knobs from FX1, then Y & H, U & J, I & K for the FX2 section?

How can I do this AND also bypass the MIDI information being sent by the controller incorrectly?

Thanks, and hope there is a fair way around this.

Hello, thanks for the input.

Unfortunately, as I suspected, there was no success.

How should we proceed?

Then please see my previous post re: having the unit serviced. It's not a common fault, and if it occurred under a year from purchase, it's covered by warranty.
