Error loading some tracks, music stops/system freezes..

Hi,

I've been experiencing some issues using Rekordbox on my XDJ RX. When playing tracks off my Sandisk Flair 3.0 128gb USB sticks, I get one of two issues:

1. It comes up with an error code (which disappears too quickly for me to memorise it) on the deck where i'm trying to locate a track which then causes the music to stop on the second deck. I then have to disconnect the USB stick and switch to another one for it to start working again.

2. The screen goes completely grey with a 'wait' symbol which doesn't go, then it causes the music to stop and the system freezes. The only way I can get it going again is to switch off and back on again.

I believe I am using the latest version of Rekordbox (as I update it when it requests it).

Any help would be great as this is become very embarrassing at gigs as a wedding DJ.

Many thanks.

Chris B

I forgot to add, I wiped the memory stick clean and reloaded all of the tracks which seemed to worked for a while, but it has since happened twice.

@Chris > Unfortunately, that drive seems to be more of a consumer product than a performance one. My recommendation would be to try with a better quality USB drive. My only two recommendations (based on my testing) are the SanDisk Extreme Pro USB3.1 and Corsair Voyager GTX. I would honestly not put my personal recommendation on any other USB drive out there (until I've tested them in performance tests and real-world usage).

These are £70 usb sticks, are you sure that's the issue? I really don't want to fork out £140 (as a I need a back up) only to get the same issue.

If you have ANY other USB drives kicking around, try them first with the same songs. Honestly, the majority of the problems I've seen (as you described) were due to poor-performance USB drives.

I remembered what song it happened on once and the next day I tested it on that song and it didn't happen. The problem seems so intermittent.

Interestingly, these errors never happened when I was using a 64gb SanDisk flair (same model).

Looking back at previous threads, people always used to recommend Corsair survivor USB sticks which have similar read/write speeds.. does this mean they experienced these problems too?

The Survivor series units are NOT recommended; they certainly have problems with XDJ players, and some people have had problems with them in CDJs (although most are okay).

It's possible the chipset manager in the 128GB model is different from that in the 64GB model, thus the difference in experience / problems.

As noted elsewhere, I've got a 1TB Samsung T5 drive that I use as my primary music source and database location - I "export" to it and then can use it with devices as well. I previously used a 512GB Samsung EVO 850 in an external enclosure and had no issues. They're expensive, but blisteringly fast.
