the ddj sb2 was designed to be portable, but in who's world is it considered a function of portability to have a critical system control stick waaaaay out and be fragile as hell? the mic level volume control is a delicate stem that sticks way out and is waiting to be crushed during travel. and of course once this happens, you will suffer an annoying squeal from your speakers. why couldn't this control be a discreet slider instead? garbage consulting on this one. i'm traveling and now i'm really stuck!!!

The SR, and SX2 have knobs that stick out as well, but no reports of any issues with those units. I believe most users will either buy a case for the unit or carry it in it's box where by there won't be any concerns with the knob getting hit.
I respect your reply, but that hardly qualifies this as "portable". its MORE portable than not, for sure. and i love how its USB driven, THAT is a key feature right there. BUT if portability is an objective, then critical controls that are fragile and exposed is considered a design flaw.
Well... this is a real subjective way of viewing this.
A Laptop is portable as well but if you drop it, it will be most likely crashed. Same with your Smartphone. There are certain military standards proofing that the device will survive when it gets hit with a certain force. But this is much more expensive.
Pioneer doesn't advertise the units as 'bullit prooved'. Portable just speaks about size and how heavy the unit is.
That it would be more crash resistant than other units is your own interpretation. I haven't seen this on any description of the device which could lead to this assumption. Even that you think it is a design flaw is your opinion - which certainly you can have as it might be what you would expect.
For sure - if Pioneer would have a unit build that solid that it can resist these things, they would advertise it. But probably no one would buy them as your SB2 might would cost as much an nxs2 setup costs.
Don't get me wrong - I fully respect your opinion.
I just have another one... :)
Frank, i never said "drop point rated", nobody is asking for that. i just said that its not a good idea to have critical controls exposed in a fragile way.
the mic level control sticks out like an antennae. its the only control they screwed me on. everything is spot on. i love how the rest of it is sits, its all on the front, its all at the same profile so i can turn the unit upside down and rest it on a table without creating a pressure point i have to worry about, i love how i can still get to all the features with relative ease.
IMHO the mic level control was the one thing they effed up on, and its biting me in the behind. and if they fixed that design flaw, YOU would be the first to benefit! i don't know why you're protesting my comment. you're not any more "enlightened" through your reflexive ignorance. and just because you disagree, that doesn't make me wrong.
