If I move my rekordbox database onto an external drive, will I be able to plug that drive into my XDJ-RX in one of the USB ports and have my entire collection available to play? I guess I'm confused about exporting to a device vs moving a database.
I've always used iTunes to organize the bulk of my digital music, and then add the tracks to rekordbox that I'd like to dj with. From there I export my entire rekordbox collection to a 500gb SSD drive for playing out.
I've now moved my entire iTunes library onto said external drive. I would like to move my rekordbox database on there too, seeing as how all the actual music files in my rekordbox database are referenced from this same iTunes library/folder. But I'm worried the XDJ-RX won't read this like it does when you 'export to device', or that there will be a conflict with the previous export (I've still got a 'Contents' folder containing my last exported collection, and a PIONEER REC folder at the root of the drive; there are also a bunch of .hidden Pioneer files that I assume are essential for players to mount the drive).
I'm hoping that by moving my iTunes library and rekordbox database onto this external drive, I'll have ALL of my music in one place, be able to easily keep my grids/loops/cues/etc updated, and skip the 'export to device' step every time I add a new track to my collection.
If everything is on external, you simply need to "export" it to that drive so it's available from the RX. It sounds confusing, but it's pretty simple. Select the entire collection, then export it. The process is almost instantaneous because the music already exists on that drive, but it needs to build the export database so the player can recognize it and link to the existing files.

Hey Pulse, thanks replying. So I moved my rekordbox database onto the external via the preferences pane, then selected all of my tracks and 'exported' them to that same external. While everything plays fine and shows up in rekordbox when the external is plugged into my computer, when I plug the external in to the RX, all of my tracks are throwing the "File not found" error. The database seems to load as it should on the RX, with all relevant artist/album/track info, but it can't seem to find the files now. It was able to load a handful of files that I had added to my collection AFTER doing the database move. But what about the rest of my collection?
Hey Pulse, still having this same issue. I've tried selecting my entire collection and exporting it to the drive multiple times with the same result. The export seems to work fine, and it's fairly quick like you said. But when I load the drive on the RX itself, all of the tracks in my collection, pre moving the database, throw a file missing error when I try to load them to either deck. I've added a couple since moving the database and those ones load fine.
Another thing to note is that all the tracks load fine while in Link mode. So, external drive with both iTunes library and Rekordbox database connected to my laptop which is then connected to XDJ-RX via ethernet Link, everything loads fine. But plugging the external directly into the RX, and it throws all the file missing errors.
I solved this, for anyone else in my situation:
Moved rekordbox database back onto my computer via preferences pane > Deleted my entire collection on the external drive withinin rekordbox > Moved my rekordbox database BACK onto the external drive via preference pane > Selected my entire 'root' collection on my computer and exported to said drive > Checked the 'Auto Export' option to keep everything automatically updated.
Had you actually moved the contents of your audio to the external drive? Or were they on the internal?

Yes, as I stated in the original post (a bit lengthy and maybe I wasn't clear, sorry). I had been using the external ssd like a normal usb stick and was exporting my entire collection to the drive every time I added to it, resulting in a 'Contents' folder with all the tracks on the drive. Before moving my rekordbox database onto said external, I had deleted this 'Contents' folder via my OS, not thru rekordbox, and that's where I think the database paths got messed up.
The Contents was the export and shouldn't have been related to the main collection; had you somehow imported that into the collection?
