No sound from headphones - cannot cue

Roberto Solari

Feb 10, 09:37 JST

I am not able to get any sound from my headphones which are plugged in to the DJ Controller unit. DDJ-RB. I have read forums about installing drivers and seem to have done this but the sound just will not cue in to the headphones still. It is very frustrating. Once I install the driver it still will not let me select any headphones. The headphones are professional quality item and should be suitable to use with this controller

Driver installation

On macOS High Sierra and Mojave, there are driver security systems in place to prevent the installation of malicious or unrecognized software/drivers to the system. When installing the drivers for the first time, you'll need to give them permission. If you are not prompted to allow them, you will need to manually open the System Preferences to Security & Privacy > General to allow the installation. This will only appear for 30 minutes after installation.

Driver reinstallation

if you did not see it or have troubles with your device driver not appearing, please reinstall the driver following these steps.

  1. Disconnect the DDJ-RB.
  2. Download the driver.
  3. Open the driver package and run the uninstaller file.
  4. Reboot your computer.
  5. Open the driver package and run the driver installation file.
  6. After the installation has completed, give the drivers permission if necessary (High Sierra and Mojave).
  7. Reboot your computer.
  8. Connect the DDJ-RB and test as normal.

See if the OS recognizes it as a MIDI Device

  1. Open the Audio MIDI Setup app.
  2. Open the MIDI Studio window if it's not open; Window > Show MIDI Studio.
  3. See if the DDJ-RB appears in the window with a solid color.
  4. If it does not appear or you feel this may be part of the problem, you can try creating a new MIDI Configuration.
  5. Click the drop-down (currently showing Default in the image above) and select New Configuration...
  6. Give the new configuration a name and click OK.
  7. The connected devices will be scanned and your DDJ-RB should appear.

Check the audio device

  1. Open the Audio MIDI Studio app.
  2. Open the Audio Devices window if it's not open; Window > Show Audio Devices.
  3. Verify that the DDJ-RB appears as an audio device.

Ensure proper configuration within rekordbox

  1. Open the Preferences and see if the DDJ-RB is selected as the audio device.
  2. Scroll down and verify that the Master Output is set to DDJ-RB : MASTER and the Headphones Output is set to DDJ-RB : PHONES.
  3. You should also see the DDJ-RB listed beside Control Device Information.
