DDJ-1000 no audio

I just got my new DDJ-1000 but I am having trouble producing any sound.

I am using my laptop (MacBook Air, Mojave 10.14.5) and I have given Rekordbox permission in the privacy settings. The controller is working properly, all the colors work and blink, the track information is shown correctly in the jogwheel screens and I can control anything through both the Rekordbox application and the controller itself. The only problem is that I am not producing any sound. The track can play, but the interface of the mixer remains competely black as if I'm not playing anything. I am also not getting any sound through the headphones. The output is connected to speakers with RCA connections through a RCA cable in the MASTER 2. The laptop is connected to the controller through the standard USB cable that was included with the DDJ-1000.

I am most likely doing something wrong, but can't figure out what. I need assistance, please.

What's selected as the audio device in your rekordbox preferences?

Is the DDJ-1000 selected as the MASTER and PHONES outputs in the preferences?

Have you set the channel selectors to USB-A to match the USB connection on the back?

Do any of the channels show signal in the LED meter?

Yes.

Yes.

No. Everything is working and I can see the track playing in the jogwheels, but the channels on the mixer do not show any signal although the faders are all up.

Edit: if I change to Export mode in Rekordbox (instead of Performance) I am able to hear sound and I can control the volume through the master level knob on the mixer. Also, if I change from Export to Performance WHILE playing the track on let's say deck 1, Rekordbox connects to the controller again and the channel volume leds show for a second. But when it's connected a second later, the sound (and the leds) disappear again.

Have you adjusted the channel trim knobs?

When you're using the DDJ-1000 as a system device, it bypasses the channels, so that would account for it making sound.

You, sir, are amazing. And I am such a rookie lol. It was the trim knobs all along. I knew it was something stupid, because all the settings and connections were correct :D oh well, thanks a lot for the help!
