DDJ 400 won't even register, on Mac (long story, need help!)

Hey Pioneer,

This is the most frustrating thing I think I have ever been through and I need some help.

So i bought a DDJ400 controller, speaker & Rekordbox License combo in late 2018, I got it all set up and was using Rbox 5.4.2 and MacOSX 10.10 (Yosemite) everything was running sweet. I had a 5 month hiatus from the decks due to work and jumped back onto is 2 days ago, when I opened Rbox it came up with an update window (the controller was plugged in an lit up at the time but I hadn't actually tried it on the on the older version) I followed through with the most current update and when I opened Rbox, my controller was alight but nothing was happening when I was moving dials, I tried downloading the old version I had got when the controller worked but nothing. I read a heap of forums and tried different things, I went into MIDI studio and removed the DDJ400 controller icon but its now gone and hasn't re-appeared, I've tried several restarts, different USB port, and my most recent attempt was to update to MacOSX 10.11 (Im not someone that updates my Mac with every time one comes out) but with no avail.

After all the buggering around, my Mac is at 10.11 (and I don't want to keep updating it as its an older Mac), I have the most current Rbox and when I plug the controller in it illuminates but nothing. The controller runs through its illumination start up and then settles with only a few buttons lit up but registers no where on my Mac. The 40 times I have plugged it in it hasn't once registered in System Information>USB.

I contacted where I bought the controller but they are telling me to uninstall the driver then reinstall but the DDJ400 doesn't have driver software, from what I understand its 'plug and play'?

With the current pandemic I would really love the decks working right now.

Please help

Hey Mike,

You're correct - there are no drivers, and while officially the software and hardware require macOS 10.12 as the minimum, it should still work with 10.11.

You tried some of the basic troubleshooting - thanks for giving those things a test and letting us know that's what you did, saves time! But did you try a different USB cable? Or a different computer?

One of the other things to try is within the MIDI Studio, instead of simply removing the DDJ-400 entry - have you tried creating a new configuration from the drop-down at the top of the window?

Does the DDJ-400 appear at all in the Audio Devices window? I'm guessing not if it's not even showing as a USB device.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't have another cable, but I did try the controller in another laptop (which is windows) but the controller still registered as being online with that laptop (whilst it was unrecognised it still 'popped up' with to me seems as though there isn't a problem with the cable)

Yep I also tried to create a new configuration. And no it doesn't show up on the Audio devices window.

This may sound a bit stupid but in layman terms it seems to me like when I updated Rekordbox it has somehow wiped my Macs ability to read the controller?
