Just bought 2000/Nexus, How do I browse usb tracks from iPad

Like the aero, I would think for the price of these decks I could browse USB flash drive tracks via my iPad RB app, No? I cant see how to do this, nothing in the manual, And one of the main reasons I purchased the deck.

Can a Pio rep confirm this since a bunch of people have asked and no one has an answer yet

+1 for the pants down :)

@ gavin > thank you for reading our feedback. let us know it you want more arguments ;)

We know that you are on our side.... sorry for all the rage you keep hearing. We just want that the nexus becomes a perfect deck.

I still have a lot of interesting features in my mind., but I think it's not the time to suggest these.

In overall , I can tell you that the "ipad search" feature would be appreciated big time!!!

Add me to the list of people who want to be able to navigate to USB devices from an iOS device. The better screen, improved searching etc. would be a MASSIVE benefit over the built in navigation on the CDJs. I'm one of those people who used to stick with laptops so that I can quickly and easily navigate large music libraries, and quickly skim through big playlists looking for inspiration.

I've been able to make the CDJ navigation work for me by using a lot of iTunes smart playlists and using tag lists a lot, but if I could use an iPad mini to navigate the music collection, I'd be in heaven.

Guys, just want to say thanks for the good discussion we are having here. I've taken your arguments and presented them to Pioneer that you consider this a really necessary feature for the decks.

Gavin, I thought about this thread last night and wanted to add,,,

last night I dj'd with only my usb drive plugged in, night went great except for when I though of a track I really wanted to drop in last second and couldnt thinking "wow, if I only had the ipad to search fast and drop that track", So again, the addition would be awesome and put these decks to the next level with true iPad integration across the board

Would it be really faster though? Unlock iPad - open rekordbox - type in search query - load track vs scrolling to search on the CDJ and using the search strip to type in the search query...

Again, I'm only making these points as how they're likely to be interpreted for development.

yes definitely cause the ipad app would be open in front of me the whole time, it's easy to just plug it in and leave it open during an event like in the pic below without it taking up any room like a laptop would, plus avoiding the cost of the laptop being knocked over or damaged just cause I have to use it for a search engine

and also Gavin, If the engineers ask "why" and need more reasons, then ask them "why" it's on the Aero? lol.... It's such a great feature on the Aero yet we don't have it on the flagship Nexus decks

I agree with Bri, if it works on the £900 Aero, surely ... the Nexus should have the same features !! Common sense please.

and as Bri's pic demonstrates, how much easier is it to select ... by the Ipad, than a 0.8mm high magic strip

Make it happen Pioneer, please with large fingers and thumps are crying out for this change, as well as the Android SD option.

Gavin, did the engineers seem like they like the idea or will they blow this off you think, it's an important thing for me as far as what route I go hard drive and tablet wise. Thanks for any info you can give

50:50. I'm going to try to take this on and get it implemented. I'll see what kind of feedback I can get to give you.

@TheOne > I'm not entirely convinced its much easier / faster but that's just my opinion. I can see how passionate you guys are about it so I've put it forward.

That's great Gavin.

Oh, and if Pioneer are looking for a another good business reason to implement this, bear in mind that a competing product that's clearly aimed at taking market share from the CDJ 2000 DOES appear to have iPad browsing as a feature (using their own software). For someone who values ease of navigation, such a feature is one of the few things that could be enough to sway them towards a competing product.

I'll say no more so as not to fall foul of the "no discussion of competing products" forum rule, but I felt it had to be mentioned as I felt it was directly relevant to the conversation at hand.

To everyone else reading: I've said this so that no-one else has to. Let's not kill this thread by dragging 3rd party products into the argument. I don't want to create a flame war or chaos for the mods in the wake of this post.

Oh, and I forgot to mention - it's not just about faster searching (which I can assure you IS faster for those of us used to a proper QWERTY touchscreen keyboard) - it's also about being able to see more on screen and move around more quickly. Possibly seeing 10 tracks or so, being able to scroll up and down with a quick swipe of a finger and skim through a list looking for inspiration, being able to tap on a playlist to open it rather than having to rotate the wheel 5 clicks first - all of these things add up to make a big difference when you're out of ideas and under time pressure.

I've had to spend a lot of time with the CDJs essentially working around the limitations of the on-screen navigation. I've had to adapt a lot, and use a significant number of playlists to get to the point where I can play a set effectively on the things. I'm used to working on laptops, where the big screen makes it much easier to get a sense of not only what's in my music collection, but also where I am within my music collection. The 6 line screen is like trying to observe a picturesque landscape through a telescope - I never feel like I can see enough of it at once. The iPad would be a great trade off - no need for a laptop, but all the benefits of one.

Thanks for the measured arguments Andrew, I will use this in my report on why this should be implemented.

absolutely! I loaded up a playlist onto the ipad to test and I love navigating using that instead of the screens, the downfall is the iPad cannot hold my size library, this is where the "iPad reading my usb external plugged into deck 1" comes in handy, Cannot wait till we hear from Gavin on whether or not it will happen.

It is something I loved on the "other brands" decks but only had them for testing purposes and returned them
