cdj vs xdj

So here we are, new player is in town. Xdj-1000. Seems like we get a 2000 too. Will be that the replacement of cdj's? Do we get a version cdj's with the new touchscreen etc? What do you guys think? Also, what you think about the non hardware hot cue keys? Clearly the xdj-1000 is not a flagship player. But i don't like the idea that the new pioneer flagship wont have hardware key's like hot cue's...

My opinion is that pioneer is going to go to the motions like the they did with the cdj 1000s.  So this is the mk1 version then they are going to implement two features in a couple years which would be the mk2.  While also creating the xdj 2000 with just a couple new features then the mk2 and so forth.  Problem with this is midi controllers are vast superior in every way, in my opinion laptops where just used till technology caught up.

Technology caught up a long time ago yet pioneer and other companies are behind the curve not understanding that they are pushing midi controllers and softwares to be superior and there top cdjs/xdjs are soon going to be fazed out.  Its easy just take the ddj sx2 and separate it in 3 pieces add some on board features such as hot cues full touch screen ect...allow it to be used with out a laptop even allow the rekordbox feature to be in the system itself no need for laptop.  Charge the same price you have been charging 1999 each cdj/xdj and mixer which is more then enough money to create a system that can be used with or with out a laptop.  Oh well I guess pioneer won't listen till numark and denon start coming up with more quality products which is what I warned about in the past.

Why is this not a flagship Player ? you can find a lot of features of the CDJ 2k Nexus in the same or different way. What be like better is the seraching function with the keyboard. I miss the SD-Card Slot ... In the first view, i would say that is a top product in High level of Equipment and plays in the top league

This isn't a flagship player, it is the update to the CDJ850.

I'm with Phil, this is the upgrade to the 850 or alternative to 900 nxs. I can see a 2000 version soon, take an educated guess looking at the release schedule of past.

I have never used the cd slot since I upgraded from the 1000mk3, but my friends use it some times.

If all I'm gaining is touch screen and beat jump feature and removal of cd drive on the 2000 model then I'll keep my 2000 nxs till the next release.

Also agree with Tasos, they need to keep hot cue buttons for drumming away on, I'd end up with a broken LCD when I get caught up in the moment bashing away on the A B C buttons haha!

Phil i don't even think this is an upgrade to the cdj850, because it's not a cdj! Except pioneer has decided to stop supporting cd's - dvd's.

Pulsator i'm with you my friend. How easy would it be to play around with hot cues on a 7'' touchscreen like we do with the hardware buttons...?

I'm wondering what features aside from touch screen they will add to a xdj 2000...The promotional video for a well known UK stockist has a Pioneer rep who says the xdj 1000 is a direct replacement for cdj 850 so this confirms its the entry level full jog design unit.

I just can't think what upgrades/features  they would include to make me want to replace my 2000 nexus units..

Also crazy to think that an entry level unit has the features of the high end model thats only a couple of years old, which means I'm expecting big things from the flag ship model next year ;)

Bring on the next flagship and make sure it's worth an upgrade!

Pulsator, a bigger touchscreen and all the hardware buttons we allready got on 2k nexus would be enough for me i think...

Your probably right, I would end up jumping on it with that too!

Looks like they might stream line it. Ditch the 900 and have a 1000 and 2000.

Like the idea!:) note that it's rather the 850's price tag. Compare the pros like color  touchscreen, hot cues, wave's, sync, slip, traffic light and the only con is the CD slot which i used in my 2000s nxs maybe 3-4 times in 2 years to just see if they still work ;) You are right - still not enough to get instead of 2000's nxs but 900.... Instead of 850 for sure;)especially for the price tag:) The only real con for me is lack of the SD card slot:)

cd-dvd slot is really expensive. But i think it is still necessary for the club-standard player.

Yes that's why it's instead of "bedroom 850" not club 900 or 2000. All of this is compatible with Rekordbox prepare and perform vision:)

I seriously don't understand this product and this is why:

This is only one multimedia player (fancy word for controller), with a price tag that opens you up to A LOT of controllers on the market that will give you two decks AND a mixer in the same unit.  Why would anyone who values their money, spend money on one or a pair of these? (if they are looking for a controller)

I understand Pioneer's direction with the whole "take the laptop away from the live setup" and all but I must say (IMO) that this is a battle not really worth fighting as they have chosen to, because of decks like the xdj and it's hefty price tag.  The laptop stays part of our gear in most cases and we can still do a ton more with the DVS software and keep more money in our pockets.

Oh ya, if it's touch screen you fancy, they have touchscreen laptops now too ;) lol

Just my thoughts on this "multimedia player"  :)

Lots of people dont want ANY LAPTOP OR DVS in DJ BOOTH. Rewiring, boxes, laptops etc...all you need a controller. There you need only a USB STICK and you are ready to go without your laptops, DVS etc. Just 850 without CD because people like using USB not a CD or laptop. Instead of CD you've got touchscreen and lots of functions from DVS or laptop without bringing them. Just ONE USB STICK. If everybody would think like you there would be only DDJ-SZ on DJ BOOTHs, in the clubs and festivals.  And whats the "club standard now"? It was said by your boy "Soulless" ;D (me)

@walter > Instead of considering it as an "expensive controller you use without the laptop," think of it as "an inexpensive CDJ without the optical drive, which you probably never used anyhow since you always have your laptop as part of your gear."

@Mateusz   I did not have the DJ booth at the club in mind at all when I wrote my comment as IMO, the 2000 series is the club standard.  I have never taken my own gear in to a club so that's why I didn't have the booth in mind.

@Pulse    I have been thinking a lot about selling my setup and moving on to a controller and I thought why would anyone pay a thousand bucks for one deck when they can buy a 4 channel controller/mixer for the same price or less even (I say this understanding the absence of a DVS sw).

I guess you are also right in a way. With your comment in mind, to me, this would be ok for someone looking for a CDJ who doesn't care for an optical drive but even saying this and typing it now it brings me back to the same reasoning...Why pay so much and not have a optical drive? lol

I guess it's a matter of preference where one could justify paying upward of a thousand dollars plus needing a mixer is worth the money to not use a DVS system.
