preview question

I don't have a controller yet, so I've only been playing with RB on laptop with no mixer/controller. I have a question about the preview feature. The little wave files on the left of each track where you can click on them and preview parts of the track. Does that work in Performance mode? And if so, where would you hear the audio? In performance mode with no controller, when I click the wave file, I don't hear the audio, but in export mode, I do. Just wondering if this works as a "cue" feature, but where is the audio routed?

@Mike > When using a mixer with the preview-cue button, that's where you would be able to select it, but when using a controller which does not have the preview-cue functionality, the audio is simply sent directly to the headphone channel of the controller, as per your selection in the audio configuration.

This is a HUGE plus for RB over Serato. Only question is if we have the ability to engage preview using a controller. For example pressing SHIFT and using an unused button. For example the pressing SHIFT + BACK button under the push wheel can preview the track with the wheel allowing to skip forward. Each click of the wheel can advance the track by 30s so all it takes is a few clicks and you're in the meat of the track. This is at least how Traktor does it with its controllers.
