What anthony showed on his video regarding the scratch problems on the xdj r1 is not normal for any high end players such as Pioneer. If your Denon then yes because this happened to most of there players but not Pioneers. This is one of the reason why I went to Pioneer from Denon because of what Anthony showed in his video. @Gavin I know your helping so obviously we appreciate you and Pulse but it seems like these engineers don't know how to test out obvious problems that clearly many people are having with this xdj r1.

Follow[CLOSED] XDJ R1 next firmware update? Product is currently not fit for sale.
Hi, I like many others here recently received the XDJ R1. I also have CDJ 1000's and a DJM850 so I am a regular pioneer user. I purchased my unit with a 30 day money back guarantee which gives me two more weeks to make up my mind. Please let me know how far along pioneer are with fixing or updating the firmware for the following issues:
Loop not working properly, skipping on tracks which play fine on other pioneer devices.
Track jumping while using jogwheels to scratch.
BPM wandering and losing sync after 20/30 seconds.
Sound quality poor on usb playback of mp3 @ 320kbps and all. Sound okay on midi use.
Some tracks stopping mid play with no explanation.
Hardware volume sliders becoming dead when using effects on app.
FX hardware knobs same. They should reset fx when the app is back to the browser window but don't.
Failure of unit to map BPMS properly or loop on CD even after a number of minutes.
I understand this is a new product but this is a long list of faults, there may be more which I have yet to find. The unit would suit me perfectly for mobile use if it worked as advertised but I literally have two weeks to decide. In the meantime one of your competitors has a similar product in the offing coming soon. I would appreciate your time in answering these issues. I understand that Gavin is answering these posts as an intermediary and thank him for his time but the engineers who released this product without resolving this issue have damaged my faith in pioneer immensely. I am a qualified electronic engineer and these faults became evident to me after an hour's testing so why did nobody at the manufacturing stage sort them? Thanks for your time.

SOLVED
Can someone please help a 20 year veteran who's finally taken the full digital move from CDs!
Firstly the unit is amazing, I'm actually surprised at the new tricks and effects I'm developing just by messing around something I'd never have done on cdjs!!
Finally cracked the beat gridding and have exported my fresh tracks onto my pen drive that I've used since day 1 and then into the unit only to find that tracks load to the unit not only by USB but cd also......however......now the tracks have stopped playing!! Pressing play does not start the track!!
I've tried pulling the power leaving it off etc NOTHING WORKS!!
Can someone please help!!!!
Is there a way to regress the firmware or factory reset the unit!!
Thanks in advance
Ross
This is starting to look like the hardware is underpowered and unable to handle the complexity of software, like playing crysis 3 at max. resolution with everything enabled on a 5 year old gpu and expecting no lag with 40fps constant.
Firmware may not be the fix for this machine.
I am going to look into returning it on the basis it does not work as advertised.
@BTD10 agree with you, cutting beats at 1/3 has no place in a unit as it just throws off your mix.
@jobushwick if I'm right and it's just the way the processor is feeding the buffer information then hopefully a firmware update will help. It's possible the original demo units had a slightly different chipset to the ones that went to market so here's hoping they can solve it. It may be possible also that the engineers in Japan have a different batch from a different order carton, it may take them a while to catch up on the issues. Meanwhile for those of us on a 30 day return time is ticking. I really want it to work, it's a handy device for small gigs when you don't want to bring all the CDJ setup but if they can't fix it by then for me I'll be waiting on the s4 mark II and use that for smaller gigs.
BTW that video has now been watched for 1378 minutes in total so there must be many DJ's all over the world having similar issues.
@Anthony > I too am a Traktor user (S2 w/F1 setup), do you have any idea what the S4 mkII will look like and possible release date, really wanted to ditch the lappy with the R1, thanks.
I'd expect it's due in the next month to two months, they are currently clearing stock. I only use the IOS version of it, stopped using it on PC, I actually use Virtual DJ with timecodes on a pioneer setup. My main reason for loving pioneer is their products are excellent for scratching on, all except the R1 unfortunately. My personal opinion is that pioneer may have rushed the release of this slightly to beat their competition to market as there is sure to be huge IOS integration with the S4 Mk2.
(Clearing stock of the old model.)
@Anthony > I almost bought the S4 at the reduced price but held off due to the R1, have you tried it with VDJ(I have the full version as backup).
Yes I have and believe it or not it works perfectly with it. Sound is better than playing from USB even with the same track at the same bitrate. PIty it doesn't support track display on the LCD screens though. Outside of that as a midi controller it works flawlessly. Well mine does anyway. BUT I didn't buy it as a midi controller. I bought it as an iPad interface.
what about the sync-bug?
http://forums.pioneerdj.com/entries/24629467-XDJ-R1-Sync-Problem
In response to an earlier question I have virtual dj but ill quit before I go near it to be honest it's kids stuff no fun or skill at all,
So I'm still no further forward VDJ does work yes with controller but its loading tracks from the USB and not allowing me to play AT ALL!!
Not impressed been at this for 12 hours it worked perfect before...no problems, apart from the ludicrous lack of waveform!!!!!! Surely it wouldn't have been that hard, given the sheer advance in technology of this unit overall I think it's great.....PLEASE GIVE IS A WAVEFORM THAT'S ALL ID LIKE :@)
And If anyone's got any clue how to remedy my problem please help!!
Cheers again
Ross
Just wanted to add that Pioneer also omitted some features specifically slip mode, manual looping and rotating led's on the platters when playing a track(all it does is blink when a track is loaded), also does anybody know what the tempo indicator lights do?, mine does not even light up at all, I just finished a 30 min. mix without any crashes BUT looping is hopeless, BPM keeps drifting, and scrolling through a track is not instantaneous and locks up in vinyl mode.
This is pathetic!!!!
I asked a serious question 3 DAYS AGO!!!
And what's the outcome...."OOH YOU'VE STILL GOT VDJ HAVEN'T YOU"
Sod that I wouldn't cop out and use that garbage if I was terminal!!!
People told me I'd get a quick and serious reply from someone and all there is here is question after question about the same things!!!
No mention of the problem or solution I'm facing...AWFUL!!!
@Anthony > The engineer was able to reproduce the bug reported in your second video and is currently working on a fix. They really appreciate you taking the time to make the second video and post it - they couldn't see the information in the first video but could in the second and they said thats what helped.
In relation to this:
Sound quality poor on usb playback of mp3 @ 320kbps and all. Sound okay on midi use.
Problematic file? Tell the engineer to load 100 mp3's of chart music at 320kbps anaylsed on rekordbox and see how well they maintain sync. The issue becomes immediately obvious
Could you send us the problematic audio files?
@Gavin > How about the other issues that have been mentioned (auto loop and BPM wandering, freezing/crashing, sync issues, etc...) as well as certain parameters on the unit not matching the remotebox app (beat control sizes), effects control interaction between hardware and remotebox (having to twist a knob to reset the effects on the unit every single time after using it on the app is really annoying), ETA for new firmware? (just asking because I don't want to get stuck with this unit for weeks and months not being able to use it on gigs or unable return it to the seller after the return policy expires).
@Gavin, thanks, what email will I send a few files to? Any ballpark idea how long for a firmware update? I know you may not be in a position to tell me but time is currently an issue for me in this. Thanks. BTW if ever there is a position for a beta tester I'd be delighted to throw my hat in the ring. :)
@BTD10 Apart from the beatcontrol size issue and resetting effects but in looping, bpm, freezing and crashing I'd expect the problems may be inter-related. If they fix the way in the data is being processed after being read from the device I think they will have all them solved in one. I could be wrong but this is my theory. Thanks also for hanging in there with me and keeping the posts going.
I am having the same sound quality issues while playing usb and cds but midi sound quality is a lot beeter auto beat loop is also out?
Hey Liam the usb and CD both are processed in the machine through an onboard system while the midi takes its sound directly from the integrated soundcard. They are separate systems and this may explain it. I find the sound superior as well on the midi section.
yes the solution i found was to lower the master volume on the software its self to try even it out? i am also having the buffer issues when trying to search trough a track it will freeze for a couple of seconds!
Midi and audio are two completely separate things. Midi does not output audio...it outputs data to a device that can translate that data into sounds.
ARE YOU JOKING ME???!!!
I've been posting for almost a week now and NO REPLY!!
Liam posts up and bang a reply!!!
Cheers though Liam at least I'm not the only one....but cheers for nothing Pioneer!!
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE SHAMBLES!
Maybe if you had a decent programming and then test team this kind of thing wouldn't happen!
UNHAPPY AS HELL!!'
@DJ-JW you are of course right, maybe I should have specified the MIDI button which changes source to the soundcard.
@Rosssutherland I don't work for pioneer, I merely started this thread as I was having my own problems with the unit I bought. if someone posts on it and I think I know the answer I reply. If I don't know I don't answer. The only pioneer person on here so far is Gavin. I use Virtual DJ for video DJ'ing and I actually think it's a great program. I use it on a DVS system with a DJM850 and CDJ1000's. I certainly don't think it's stupid or for kids. Sorry I didn't answer your posts but I didn't know the answer to your problem.
Hi Ihr Mitleidenden,
