just wanted to start a discussion about a battle mixer like the djm-s9, but dedicated for rekordbox... djm-r9 perhaps? i haven't been able to find many discussions about it online, so i thought i'd start one here so that pioneer knows that customers are interested!
i know you can midi map the s9, but on posts i've seen people are saying they can map the hot cues, but not get any of the other pad features to work. i'd prefer to wait for a product that is built for rekordbox.
i've been holding out since the s9 dropped because i really want to use rekordbox and not serato - but i haven't heard anything! no announcements, rumors, or anything. anyone else have an ear to the ground that can hook up some details?

This is a great post and will hopefully bring out some great ideas that Pioneer can then look at for future products. A voice means nothing silent!
i'm honestly surprised it hasn't been more of a discussion already! the s9 is an amazing mixer for spinning vinyl. seems to me with the introduction of dvs, plx's, and the s9... pioneer would be licking their chops trying to put out a rekordbox-dedicated battle mixer to round off the collection of pioneer products enticing customers to use their shiny new software AND hardware for an all-encompassing dvs rig. might even be the final nail in the coffin for competitors...
oh yeah - and can we get some nice funky designs on the control vinyl? black is cool and all, but let's see some more options.
I completely agree with all of the above. I realise it's early days for this software but the lack of a decent mixer for rekordbox is very frustrating and to be honest I'm surprised one hasn't materialised already. In my opinion a dedicated battle mixer would have been far more beneficial to a lot of us than some of the other new products that have recently been announced.
I had a DJM T1 which I sold last year and HUGELY regret it now as none of the other compatible mixers are really what I want to be buying at this point. Despite loving rekordbox I've been very tempted to do the Serato switch so many times purely so I can use the S9.
As suggested above, an R9 would be ideal, as the features on the current mixer are already exactly as I would want them, it just needs to work with rekordbox!!!
Ditto re control vinyl, black does the job but so many other colour possibilities there.
It's mid-2018, and I'm still waiting for this to happen. I recently bought the DJM-450, and LOVE it! I still would like a DJM-R9 (S9) to go with my Pioneer PLX-1000s. Don't get me wrong, I love the mixers Pioneer DJ has came out with, BUT to have a dedication Battle Mixer for rekordbox is ideal. Rekordbox is very popular right now. Why haven't this happen already?
Hi,
I UP this topic!
I don't understand why Pioneer doesn't put forward "Rekordbox" for every product.
They still continue to sell "Serato" product.
I think now Rekordbox is as important as Serato/Traktor..
RB With more features and more possibilites now, is ideal with a mixer like the S9.. but dedicated to RB !
S9 ==> Normally the good update will be R9 !
Please Pioneer make one BATTLE DJM REKORDBOX ! :D
Or... just use the S9 with rekordbox, as it is supported.
I think I understand why Pioneer won't make a battle mixer dedicatied for Rekordbox.
Pioneer specializes in CDJs. They only made one solid turntable and one solid mixer. But they don't want to steer away from who they are
Also they would probably have to make controller turntables to complete the set. Which they probably won't do.
But I bought the S9, and I like it...
Ok i understand Pioneer, the S9 is supported with Rekordbox, so why did we have to make a new mixer?
But i ask the same question for DDJ-SR-X-Z & DDJ-RB-RX-RZ ? Why did you made that? It's just an upgrade with minor features...
So why it would be different with the S9 ?
The major problem is , why we have to buy a DVS licence to use the S9.. Why it's not in the box when we buy the S9.
For example, in my case, i've got the DDJ-RX with regular licence of Rekordbox. But if i want to upgrade my stuff to the Vinyl and use S9, i have to buy:
-DJM S9
-REKORDBOX DVS (there is no upgrade from the regular version with minimum price)
-TIMECODED RB VINYL
-2 x Vinyl turntable (ex: PLX-1000)
When we use S9 with Serato:
There are bundle with the DJM S9 (1800$) + Serato software (free by the way) + Vinyl (max 50$..)
thanks for your answer.. ;)
I believe Pioneer is trying to get as much money as they can... Serato does business different. I definitely wanted a battle mixer dedicated for Rekordbox, but the S9 is good... If they finally decide to release one, I won't be buying it... lol... I'm not rich...
