Rekordbox DJ issues - bugs, bugs and random bit crunch noise

So, I have been trying out Rekorbox DJ for a few bar shows and to put it mildly - I'm not impressed. I intended to use it as a backup for venues with low end gear but since Rekordbox DJ is so bug ridden I will have to start carry my CDJ's again.

After my first try out a month ago I reported several bugs in detail but without any  reaction from Pioneer.

https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/205294553-Major-memory-cue-point-loop-and-sync-bugs-Rekordbox-DJ-CDJ-350

After the last update I took it for a spin again yesterday and all the bugs are still there, and just using the software for a few hours reveals so many more.

More alarming is that Rekordbox DJ, even though it only uses a few millimeters of CPU on the meter, drives my laptop (that is well within the spec range) into bit crunch noise mode. Like when I'm running 15 different apps at the same time that are really heavy memory consumers. All mixing and effects are external, Rekordbox DJ can't even handle playing two tracks at the same time. I have of course nothing running in the background, bluetooth and wifi off.

How to fix it quick? Unplug the CDJ that is making noise, re-plug it. Only problem is that that stops all sound output. Unacceptable.

For me Pioneer stands for professional DJ products with outstanding stability and sound quality. Rekorbox DJ, with all the bugs and performance issues, makes me feel like I'm an early beta tester, and in my view not even close to be ready for public performances.

Rant over.

@Henrik > Sorry for these topics being missed, we've had a large surge of traffic lately and we've added additional moderators to the team to try and answer all the questions, but it looks like your posts may have been missed in the shuffle. I've replied to the other post as well.

I would recommend you move the buffer (latency) setting higher to see if that helps the audio glitches.

Ok, but it will take a long time before I take Rekordbox DJ for a spin again. The unrealibilty is unacceptable.

As with any system or setup, we recommend you test before performing live to determine any small issues your configuration may have, or changes that are necessary for optimal performance. As every computer is different, we can't simply say that your best configuration is XYZ, and there are certainly plenty of DJs who are using rekordbox for live performance without issues.

i completely agree, using computers in your setup is very delicate business and should not be taken lightly. My point here is that I found many major bugs in just a few minutes of use, adding to that the bit crunching noise that turns up after hours of use (probably memory leaks) with an optimized laptop. Sorry, I will not be using Rekordbox DJ again without a lot convincing....

And I'm not going to try and convince you because it wouldn't be worth either of our time, mine in explaining and troubleshooting, yours in trying to change your mind.

All I will say is that it's likely your audio buffer was the problem, hence it resetting itself after you disconnect and reconnect it. Using a larger value may resolve the problem, or it could simply be that the drivers for the CDJ-350 are aged and there's something with the operating system you're using causing a conflict or other memory issue after a certain amount of time (like a buffer overflow or a connection timeout). Again, either way, I'm sure anything I suggest won't change your mind to alter the way you're DJing, so we'll consider this issue unresolved and left as-is.

Well, I will just continue using the Dj-equipment I trust and love - Pioneer CDJ's that offers the ultimate stabiltiy and performance. Maybe in a few updates I will take the Performance mode for a spin again, with increased buffer, but until then I will keep my tunes on USB-sticks ;)
