tl;dr - there is a loud electrical buzzing from the headphone jacks
Just got my DDJ-1000 (preordered on the day it was announced).
The center screen is great, and love the form factor however compared to all my other Pioneer gear there is a loud electrical buzzing when I connect my Macbook to the unit.
I've tried different USB cables, including the one that is included. I've switched ports on my computer, even using another Macbook. The electrical noise gets a lot more bearable when unplugging the USB,. This does not happen on my DDJ-RZ, or my older DDJ-SX2 or DDJ-SR. Also, when pressing buttons such as "SLIP", I can hear a high pitch noise when the screens and lights on the unit flash to indicate SLIP mode.
My second issue is that the sound feels 'harsher' and more overdriven than my other Pioneer gear. Was there a change in the DAC?
I have yet to use this unit out, but I'm concerned when hooking the outputs to a club PA this weekend that there will be electrical noise blasting out through the club's soundsystem.
Could this be because Pioneer opted to use a external wall wart that has 2 prongs (not a grounded 3 prong design)? I'm in the USA and ordered from an authorized US retailer. Thanks

pioneer dj should be the ones repairing these and not having us send these back for another unit that might have the same thing! and yes the gain on the master volume seems way to over driven! i was distorting way too fast and barely had the volume up
Had a demo with the DDJ 1000 at my local DJ retailer this week. On the face of it, I'm ready to jump in.... However, after reading this and other threads on this forum, there does seem to be a lot of teething issues with early units.
I'm thinking perhaps Pioneer DJ need to be a bit more transparent on the serial numbers on the affected units as it seems a lot of you are experiencing the same problems and it must be incredibly frustrating.
To save myself a lot of silly bother, I think I might hold off on my purchase until Pioneer DJ can fix this stuff.
Over to you Pioneer DJ. My cash is waiting....
It's not a matter of transparency -- we're still investigating to determine what's going on. Your patience is appreciated.
any updates on this problem?
Today i just got my third unit with serial number: RDMP003258YY and manifacture date: april 2018. Still has the same problem. So my question to pioneer is when will we get a solution, or maybe give a status update? Because it feels like you guys aren't doing that much because we don't get a lot of feedback.
Got mine today and guess what??? SAME problem. But I found also a solution. I use wired Shure in-ears and in between the unit and the in-ears I use a Fischer Amps belt pack. It's nothing more then a volume knob.
When you turn down the volume in such a way you cannot hear the digital noise anymore, the output of the unit is still more then loud enough and all works fine. So for me now at the moment this is a great solution.
What I suspect: the default amplification level of the headphones out is way to loud. That's why you can hear al the digital interference.
I hope this can be fixed by a firmware update, but if the circuit is analogue probably an authorized Pioneer service center can fix it or Pioneer has to swap the units.
So I hope this helps and pushing things the right way ;-)
I have the exact same problem. There is a high pitched humm when I plug headphones into either jack and the power is on. The humm is not affected by the volume controls or any other knobs. It is constant and extremely irritating. Didn't have this on my DDJSX.
What is the solution as this is driving me crazy?
The humm then augments when the demo lights come on. There is clearly some sort of interference in the unit
Rest assured the problem has been around since January at the time of release and problem notified over a month now so Pioneer is fully aware of what's going on.
This is just one of the problems identified with the unit. In spite of the problems, I think its one of their best controllers overall for the price. Hopefully I wont eat my words months down the road
Last email I got from support (Thursday) gave no indication when a solution will be made available. Pulse has also notified engineering as well. So keep applying pressure and hope for the best.
The product team is working on this -- they're all off on vacation this week (Golden Week holidays in Japan), but we do hope to have more info soon. Thanks for your patience everyone!
Good Morning everybody,
I got same probs here, received device 3-4 weeks ago and finally had some spare time on monday evening.
And, without ANY connected pc/laptop or anything else, just my in-ears and powersupply, firering up the unit, just after effects and system has booted up, the humming noise is there.
Serial Number is RCMP002840YY
I need a solution, I need to sell my "old" equipment ASAP, but currently this is not possible.
Thanks.
P.S.: I´ve already talked to the shop-guys here in germany, they are not really aware of this ....
Pulse, i want to add this problem isnt just in the headphones... as soon as you turn the master volume up the white noise comes up thru the speakers as well.
@Rez > So far you're the first to say there's an issue on the master output. Which connections are you using and do the levels of the channel gain / master make a difference on the loudness of the noise?
Also, are you talking about a "hiss" or a buzzing?
Hi everybody,
Can´t confirm the behavior from REZ, but...
Turning up the masters Volume from -minus all to first dash I get a clicking/switching on noise, like something is being plugged in roughly.
I wil send this one back as fast as possible if You have no other idea.
This device is definitly not ok in my opinion.
@Pioneer: Please fix this mess, Pro DJs buying those big things are not Your betatesters, or should not be such testers.
;) Best wishes to all and the techteam
Pulse i am certainly not the first and wont be the last. This is a known issue, matter of fact after doing some searching many pioneer units including controllers and mixers have had complaints of being noisy. Simply sending these back to the vendor isnt an option for many of us especially if the exchanged units WILL HAVE THE SAME problem. I had controllers from other competitors some as low as $200 that didnt have any noise problems. Pioneer is an industry leader and this is simply unacceptable especially for a unit of this caliber and price. Many DJ's do care about the QUALITY of their sound.
I sold both my Denon controllers and have invested heavily into the Pioneer realm, cases, laptop stands, headphones and this controller. MY hope is that something will be found on these units and that we can bring these to a service center and get fixed not exchange for another unit when these controllers are sold out nation wide.

@Rez > The first link was to do with the headphones (same as this topic), and the second was due to an unsheilded / poorly isolated USB chipset. As noted, you're the first to complain about the buzz on the MASTER output (if, in fact, your case has nothing to do with USB interference).
Please test it with one or two other computers to rule this out.
I've now noticed mine has a very noisy headphone port too. Manufactured February. It's past 14 days now so I don't think I can return it. :(
Just received my second DDJ-1000-Unit from musicstore.de. And it has the same problem: Electrical Noise in Headphone-Output no matter if the unit is pluged with USB to my mac or not. Serial Number: RDMP0033****
I just want to know, if this issue can be fixed with a new firmware update or not!
I rekon ive had one of the first ddj1000 that entered the uk, it had no buzzing sound (jan 2018 approx)
after that unit got written off with a pint of beer, ive just recieved my new one (may2018)
you should get your mic and wrap your headphones around it and demonstrate what is going on?
I was the original poster that found this issue. I was a pre-order from the day Pioneer announced this unit. Anyway, I had sent my unit back as soon as I posted this back in March and received a replacement from my retailer.
I'm happy to announce that my unit is significantly quieter. I can still hear a hiss / electrical noise while it is powered on, but it is barely perceptible in my home studio. It isn't distracting/annoying like my previous unit. Assuming the main outputs are clean, I think this noise floor is acceptable for a headphone output.
My mgr date is April 2018 for those that are wondering.
Harry
Our engineers are working on investigating these complaints and appreciate your patience until we have additional information. Thanks.
Sorry @Pulse, but this is not really funny for us all here having those issues.
The Thread has started on end of April, we are hitting end of May soon. And this "special" issue is now know 3 weeks.
My Online-Store is also complaining about "little" or "no" information by Pioneer support as well even though this thread is send to them on my first complain.
And reading here that other controllers do have same issues as well, even some mixers, I am really worried about all, I think I will keep my DJM700 which is not noisy on any output. I also think, that if a fix is not really there till end of my holidays (June 4th) I will rerole the deal and retreat from Pioneer.
I was never so disappointed that much, I am not interested in investing 1200 Bucks into some piece of "on-the-fly-built" device being a solution and combination of many allready-there-products which is not working nearly as good and clean as all parts on their own.
We are all very patience, but this is getting messy.
Telling us all to wait because of holidays, maybe some engineers are sick and every other reason why things take so long is just not enough.
Confirming to us, that You have not only received some complaints but also some devices showing this issue and that You can confirm our approaches to close in on the rootcause would be a first step.
Just not only tell us You are working on this, tell us what You have already done and what ideas came up thru troubleshooting.
The noisy sound on the headphone is definitely coming from some parts of the soundcard / pre-amp-part which is being set to maximum when being switched on and booted. And this behaviour can be confirmed easily by taking some of these devices and check this. How long shall a simple plugin some powersupply and headphone take and booting really take ? 5 Minutes ? Confirming another 5 Minutes ?
So @Pulse, don´t be mad at me, this is not helpful.
Being in IT-Industry mainly I know that their are sometimes small issues causing big problems, just think about some ssds and windows 10 1803, also messy.
So please, don´t leave us in the dark here, this is not ok.
Thank You.
Rest assured the Pioneer DJ backoffice group and management is fully aware of the issue as well as others associated with this model (read Pioneer news).
Pioneer DJ is quiet on this particular issue, not sure why. I'm only being told to be patient until a fix is announced, that was a couple weeks ago. I'm thinking they maybe trying to suppress the noise by way of a firmware update, this type of noise would typically be resolved by replacing a hardware component; at least in the old analog world. Clever if that works.
Pulse is only a messenger and has conveyed the issue as noted, so its a matter of priority which seems backlog.at the moment
@Nicos > We're not ignoring you or leaving you in the dark, I simply don't have any updates to provide you. It's possible they've identified what the problem is and are testing various fixes, but I'm not an engineer, not working in the Japan offices, so I don't have those details.
I promise, as soon as we have additional information, it will be provided.
@Pulse: Thank You for the reply. Sharing HAMOJA´s opinion I am thinking of some ideas how to suppress such noise by using some algorhythm (coming from amateur radio ... well another story).
It´s obvious that this problems are based on some parts which maybe should be replaced or totally changed which could lead to some big changes in layouting the mixer/soundcard itself. This is definitely not just some "easy" bug.
But please tell Your contacts, that these problems are there and have been there in some products before, following all news. Therefore it is clearly disappointing that everybody from the techteam is very silent about this.
I will try to enjoy my upcoming holidays and hopefully have a replacement by begin of june. I have sent my unit back to my distributor yesterday and I am very sad about this all. Hopefully I can forget about this soon.
Due to the fact that my unit was noisy and has some issue on the master volume control I hope for some real fast swapping.by pioneer support. Maybe I will be lucky, lets wait and see.
So PULSE, I am just very sad, because I am used to some more information in shorter time, especially by Pioneer.
But lets wait and see, Yours Nicos
Hello, folks.
My DDJ-1000 also has this annoying headphones buzz. Symptoms are the same - headphones level and mixing knobs do not affect the buzz, but more leds are enabled more noise is audible.
Sent my unit back and waiting for replacement.
A bit disappointed (
Unless related to something else outside of topic, anyone with this particular issue may have to turn it for service to get the buzz fixed unfortunately. I got an exchange and the new unit has a manufacture date of May 2018 which does not have the problem.
Dear Pulse,
Well, I don´t know how to write this with less emotions, but:
1. My Retailer did not know about this issue and support in germany did not tell my retailer, that this problem really exists. I do not know if my reliable retailer now has some more input from Pioneer about this problems.
2. Referring to Your last statements, the issue is being investigated and (from Your last Post) seems to be a general problem. But also the search is going on or some fixes are in preparations.
3. Just telling us here to contact our retailers or directly the support is not so helpful if there is no link to a list of regional support. So I will support You here.
https://www.pioneerdj.com/en-us/support/contact/
Please select Your language / region by using the "flag" in the upper right corner.
Select Your region, You will be transferred to some more specify menu.
If available please choose Your own country.
You will be delivered with contact details and a link for some mail-form for contacting the support there.
So Pulse, You see, I am patient and supporting, I am not mad.
But I would appreciate Your contacts to tell us, how far they are know with all investigations and (if there is a real plan) how this issue could be really solved.
A simple update is sometimes not so bad, or is it ?!?
Bringing new devices (currently a new hot piece for SERATO Users arrived) to the market is one thing, getting fixed shipped units another.
I am very sorry, but I hope, that after waiting 4 weeks my (hopefully new unit, got 2 bugs in this) exchanged unit is free of any problems, it shall arrive by thursday, maybe friday.
I will keep You all posted, and I am a very patient person, so maybe my device will be here before my birthday and maybe this will before a full month will have passed by (my last post was on May 20th. )
Good start for a new week to You all, let´s hope for the best.
Yours Nicos
@Nicos > To answer your questions and comments...
1) Retailers might not be aware of it.
2) It's not a general problem, our team is aware of which units are affected (or possibly affected). This does not affect all units thus there is no general recall. It's only if you feel there is an issue or fault that we are dealing with those customers directly and advising them on the appropriate steps.
3) Yes, there's more to do than just clicking the link I provide and having support RIGHT THERE, as this is a global forum, I don't know where you are, and that link does eventually get you to the right place where you can get support in your country.
Regarding an update, yes - our team worked to determine if this was a problem they could simply address via firmware (which it was not; but the master effects complaints were).
The SX3 has no bearing on the DDJ-1000's status; they are produced and released by different teams.
I understand your frustration with the situation, but I'm glad you were able to get the unit repaired.
